BMW iX2 Wipers Dead: Electrical Gremlins or Simple Fix?

Fault stored

Wipers don't work properly

Hi all! My 2024 BMW iX2 (electric) with 134,146 km is giving me headaches. The windshield wipers have completely stopped working, both manual and auto mode are dead. The car's throwing an error code too. I think it might be the wiper relay, but after a bad experience with my last mechanic, I'm hesitant to go back. Has anyone dealt with similar wiper issues on their iX2? What was the actual problem and did you find a reliable fix? Would really appreciate hearing about your experiences. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2021 BMW iX3 last season. After dealing with the same symptoms, completely dead wipers and error codes, it turned out to be a faulty connection in the wiring harness near the motor. Some pins in the main connector had corroded. The repair wasn't particularly complex, but it required specific diagnostic tools to pinpoint the exact location of the connection failure. The technician had to partially disassemble the cowl area to access and replace the damaged connector. It wasn't a serious mechanical issue, but definitely not something you'd want to ignore, especially during wet weather. One tip: make sure they check the entire wiring path, not just the relay. In my case, replacing the relay alone wouldn't have solved the problem. The whole repair took about 3 hours at the shop. The car's been running perfectly since then. Good luck with the fix!

Thanks for sharing your experience! My wipers are working fine now after getting them fixed. The mechanic found the same issue, corroded connector pins in the wiring harness. Can't remember exactly how much I paid for the repair though. Has everything been smooth sailing with yours since the fix? Just asking because I'm a bit worried about other electrical gremlins popping up in the future.

Hey again! Glad to hear you got it sorted out! Yeah, since I had my wiper issue fixed, everything's been running perfectly smooth. I actually just checked my records, ended up paying 95€ for the repair. They found a faulty relay and fixed some dodgy cable connections. Money well spent, if you ask me! You shouldn't worry too much about future electrical issues. These cars are pretty solid overall. I've put quite a few miles on mine since the repair (about 8 months ago now), and haven't had a single problem with the electrical systems. The mechanic mentioned these connector problems are pretty rare, and once they're properly fixed, they usually stay fixed. Just keep an eye on your regular maintenance schedule and you should be fine. These newer BMWs are quite reliable when they're looked after properly. If you do notice anything unusual though, better to get it checked early rather than waiting, that's my two cents! Let me know if anything else comes up!

Thanks for the reassurance! You're right about catching things early. After my wiper drama, I finally found a decent mechanic who actually took the time to explain everything. Had to shell out about €300 for the repair, but hey, at least it's sorted now. Funny story actually, while I was at the shop, this ancient coffee machine they had kept making these weird noises, and the mechanic joked that it needed more repairs than my BMW! Made the whole experience a bit less stressful. The repair took about four hours, but they gave me regular updates and even showed me the corroded parts they replaced. Can't tell you how relieved I am to have working wipers again. Been driving for a few weeks now without any issues. Keeping my fingers crossed it stays that way! Thanks again for all your help, really appreciate you sharing your experience.
