BMW iX2 Windshield Heating Failure, Owners Report Issues

Heated windows without function

Hey all! My 2024 BMW iX2 (electric) is having issues with the windshield heating system. It's completely stopped working, and I'm getting an error code in the system. Got about 121,817 km on the clock. Last mechanic visit wasn't great, so I'm a bit hesitant to go back. Has anyone experienced similar heating problems with their iX2? What was the cause and how much did repairs cost? Thanks in advance for any insights!

Had a similar issue with my 2021 BMW iX3 last winter. The windshield heating failure was connected to a faulty battery system. Got a "Battery heavily discharged" warning, and several electrical systems started acting up, including the windshield heating. Turned out the main battery management system needed recalibration and one of the control modules had to be replaced. It was a serious job that took two days at the dealership. The heating issue was just a symptom of the larger electrical problem. Would definitely recommend getting it checked at a certified BMW service center since these electric systems are pretty complex. My car's been running perfectly since the fix, no heating issues whatsoever in the past year. Make sure to ask them to check both the battery management system and the heating control module. Could save you another trip to the garage.

Thanks for sharing your experience! Really helpful to know about the battery system connection, seems our issues might be similar. Just curious, do you recall how much you ended up paying for the whole repair? Also, has everything been running smoothly since then, or have you noticed any other quirks?

Hey there! Happy to give you the full update. The total repair came to 290 € for fixing that battery discharge issue, and I'm pleased to say it was money well spent. Not only did it solve the windshield heating problem, but it also fixed the rear window heating that I hadn't even mentioned in my first reply, that had been acting up too! Everything's been running like clockwork since the repair, which was about a year ago now. No more electrical gremlins or heating issues at all. The battery management system is working perfectly, and all the heating elements are doing their job just as they should. To be honest, I was a bit worried it might be a recurring problem, but my iX3 has been absolutely solid. No quirks, no warning lights, nothing. The certified BMW center might have been a bit pricier than a regular garage, but considering how complex these electrical systems are, I'd say it was worth every cent. Sounds like you might be dealing with the same issue I had. If you do get it fixed, I'd be interested to hear how it goes for you!

Just got back from the mechanic, and wow, what a different experience this time! Took your advice and went to a certified BMW center instead of my usual place. You were spot on, it was indeed a battery management system issue. They found some additional sensor problems too, which explained the error codes I was getting. The whole thing cost me 340 €, a bit more than what you paid, but they did a thorough job. The mechanic explained everything clearly and even showed me the problematic parts they replaced. Much better than my last repair experience! Just drove home, and the heating system is working perfectly again. No more error codes, and everything feels smoother. Think I've found my new go-to mechanic too, the service was just fantastic. Really appreciate your help in pointing me in the right direction. Sometimes paying a bit extra for proper service is totally worth it!
