Thanks for sharing your experience! My iX2 just hit 199324 KM, and I'm dealing with a grinding noise when the tailgate tries to move. It started about a week ago, quite suddenly actually. When it attempts to open or close, there's this nasty grinding sound followed by the error message on the display. It's been super frustrating, especially since I just had it serviced last month. Guess I'll need to make another workshop appointment, though I was hoping to avoid that. Definitely seems like it could be more than just a loose connection in my case.
Hey again! Sorry to hear about that grinding noise, that's definitely different from what I experienced with my iX3. When mine had issues, it was just failing to open/close smoothly, but there wasn't any grinding sound. Based on what you're describing, especially with that grinding noise, I'd bet you're dealing with either a worn-out motor or possibly something caught in the mechanism. The high mileage on your iX2 could be a factor too. Mine only had about 50000 km when I had my issue. I'd strongly recommend getting it to the workshop ASAP, that grinding sound usually means something mechanical is wrong, and continuing to use the tailgate could cause more damage. When I last spoke with my mechanic about these tailgate systems, he mentioned that grinding noises often point to either a damaged drive unit or misaligned components. Quick tip though, until you can get it to the workshop, try operating the tailgate manually if possible. That's what I did when mine was acting up, just to avoid any potential further damage. Keep us posted on what the workshop finds. I'm really curious if it's something more serious than the cable issue I had!
Thanks for the detailed advice! You're probably right about getting it checked out ASAP. I've actually started using it manually already, didn't want to risk making whatever's wrong even worse. The grinding noise definitely has me worried it's more serious than a cable issue. Guess I'll bite the bullet and call the workshop tomorrow. The last thing I need is a completely jammed tailgate! It's pretty frustrating that this is happening right after a service, but at least the car's still under warranty, so hopefully, the repair costs won't be too bad. I'll definitely update the thread once I know what's actually causing the problem. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and tips. At least I know what to mention to the mechanics when I take it in!
Hey there! As someone with some experience working on EVs, I had a similar issue with my 2022 BMW iX3 (also have an i4 in the family). The automatic tailgate problem is super annoying, right? I took mine to the workshop when it started acting up, turned out to be a loose cable connection to the tailgate sensor. The repair was pretty straightforward and cost me 95 Euro. They basically had to reconnect and secure the wiring properly. Before you head to the workshop though, could you share: Does it make any unusual sounds when trying to operate? Are you getting any specific warning messages? Did this start suddenly or gradually? This info would help figure out if you're dealing with the same issue I had or something else. These modern EVs are tricky with their electronics!
