Hey, thanks for sharing your experience with the clock spring issue. I'm actually dealing with this exact same problem on my iX2 right now. Do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the repair? Also, just curious, have you had any other electrical gremlins pop up since they fixed it? I'm trying to figure out if I should brace myself for a big bill, and wondering if this might be part of a bigger electrical issue. Thanks again for the help!
Hey again! Great news, I can actually give you a proper update now since I got it fixed last week. The final bill came to 95 € for fixing that faulty cable connection in the steering wheel. It was exactly what I thought, the clock spring issue I mentioned before. Really relieved it wasn't anything more serious! And to answer your other question, nope, absolutely zero electrical problems since the repair. Everything's working perfectly now, all the steering wheel buttons, cruise control, and those pesky warning lights have completely disappeared. The airbag warning cleared up right away too, which was a huge relief. Honestly, it turned out to be a much simpler (and cheaper!) fix than I initially feared. My steering wheel's working just like new again. Sounds like you've got the exact same problem I had, so hopefully, this gives you a better idea of what you're looking at cost-wise. Trust me, it's worth getting sorted, makes such a difference having all those controls back!
Just wanted to update everyone, got my iX2 back from the mechanic today! Found this really thorough shop that specializes in BMWs. They diagnosed and fixed everything in about 4 hours. The problem was exactly what you described, a faulty clock spring. The repair bill came to around 120 bucks, which was such a relief. I was honestly expecting much worse! They showed me the worn-out cable and explained everything clearly. All the warning lights are gone now, and every single button on the steering wheel works perfectly. The best part? The mechanic I found was super professional and upfront about everything. Such a different experience from my last one. They even did a quick check of the other electrical systems just to make sure there weren't any related issues. Really appreciate everyone's help and advice here, especially about the clock spring issue. It definitely made me feel more confident going into the repair. Glad this turned out to be a pretty straightforward fix!
Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2021 BMW i4 last winter. The steering wheel controls died completely, and I got those same warning lights for the airbag and driver assistance systems. Based on my experience at the garage, it turned out to be a faulty cable connection in the steering wheel clock spring. The mechanic showed me that these cables can wear out from regular steering wheel movement. It's actually a serious safety concern because it affects the airbag system and all those steering wheel controls. In my case, they had to replace the entire clock spring assembly. Fix took about 3 hours, and the problem hasn't returned since. Would definitely recommend getting it checked soon, especially with those airbag warnings. Just make sure to find a shop that's certified to work on BMW electric vehicles, the electrical systems are pretty complex on these cars. Hope this helps with your decision. Good luck with the repair.
