BMW iX2 Multiple Warning Lights Signal Brake System Alert

Spongy/unresponsive brakes

Hey all! Having a concerning issue with my 2024 BMW iX2 (166,938 km, electric). The brake pedal feels weird and spongy, and multiple warning lights keep popping up on the dash, including ABS, ESP, and brake warnings. Pretty sure it might be worn brakes, but after a bad experience with my previous mechanic, I'm hesitant about where to take it. Has anyone dealt with similar warning combos on their iX2? What was the actual problem and did you find a reliable fix? Really appreciate any insights or recommendations. Thanks in advance!

I experienced something very similar with my 2021 BMW iX3 last month. Multiple warning lights, including the same ones you mentioned, and that spongy brake feel got me worried too. Took it to the garage and turns out it was an undervoltage issue affecting the brake control systems. The high-voltage battery wasn't properly communicating with the brake-by-wire system. It wasn't just worn brake pads as I initially suspected. The fix required a complete diagnostic of the electrical system and reprogramming of the brake control module. They also had to recalibrate the regenerative braking system. Definitely not a DIY job, needed specialized BMW diagnostic equipment. It was a serious issue that needed immediate attention since it affected core safety systems. Not something you want to postpone getting checked out. My car was in the shop for three days while they sorted it out. Make sure whoever looks at it has experience with electric BMW models, as these systems are quite different from conventional vehicles.

Thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful to know about the brake-by-wire system and battery connection issues. I was worried it might be something mechanical, but sounds like it could be electrical in my case too. Just curious, do you remember roughly how much the repair set you back? And has everything been working smoothly since the fix, or have you noticed any other quirks?

Hey there! Happy to give you an update. After my earlier post, I got my iX3 fixed and everything's running perfectly now. You'll be glad to know it wasn't nearly as complicated as I first thought. While I initially suspected worn brakes like you did, the undervoltage issue was the real culprit. The repair bill came to 240 € for the electrical system diagnostics and reprogramming work. Much better than I expected, honestly! Since the fix, my car's been running like a dream, no more warning lights, and the brake pedal feels nice and firm again. The regenerative braking is working smoothly too, which is a relief. It's been about six weeks now, and I haven't noticed any weird quirks or issues. Best decision I made was getting it sorted quickly. These modern electric BMWs are amazing machines, but when something's off with the electrical systems, it's definitely worth getting a professional to look at it. Let me know how yours turns out!

Just wanted to update everyone, I took my car to the mechanic yesterday and you were spot on! Had the same undervoltage problem affecting the brake systems. The diagnostic showed the battery wasn't talking properly to the brake controls. The mechanic fixed it pretty quick, took about four hours total. Cost was reasonable too, around the same as what you paid. They ran a full system check, reprogrammed the brake module, and got everything calibrated properly. Took it for a test drive afterwards and what a difference! The brake pedal feels solid again, all those annoying warning lights are gone, and the car's running perfectly. Such a relief it wasn't anything more serious. Really glad I didn't put this off any longer. Thanks again for your help, definitely saved me some stress knowing what to expect. Now I can finally enjoy driving my iX2 again without worrying about those warning lights!

Let our mechanics help you!
