BMW iX2 Multiple System Failures & Cruise Control Dead

Cruise control without function

|

Fault stored

Hey all! My 2024 BMW iX2 (electric) with 57k km is acting up. Multiple warning lights keep popping up on the dash (ESP, ABS, brakes, steering), and the cruise control along with steering wheel buttons have completely stopped working. Had a not-so-great experience with my last mechanic, so I'm a bit hesitant. Has anyone dealt with similar issues, especially the cruise control failure? What was the actual problem and how much did the repair cost? Would really appreciate your insights before I take it to a shop. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I had a similar situation with my 2021 BMW iX3 last year. Those warning lights are definitely concerning, but in my case, it turned out to be less severe than it appeared. The multiple warnings and non-responsive controls were caused by a faulty connection in the steering wheel control module. During my garage visit, the technician found that moisture had gotten into one of the main connector plugs, causing corrosion and intermittent connectivity issues. They had to clean the connections and replace the main wiring harness in the steering column. It wasn't a major mechanical problem, but it needed immediate attention to prevent any safety issues. The repair took about half a day to complete. While the car was there, they also performed a full diagnostic scan to ensure no other systems were affected. Since then, I haven't had any issues with the warning lights or cruise control. I'd recommend getting it checked soon, as electrical issues can sometimes indicate more serious problems if left unattended. Best of luck with the repair.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience, really helpful to hear about a similar case! Just wondering, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the repair? And has everything stayed working properly since they fixed it, or have you noticed any other quirks? I'm actually heading to the garage next week, so it would be great to have an idea of what to expect cost-wise. Still a bit nervous about it, but your explanation makes me feel better about the whole thing.

Hey again! Just to update you, yes, everything has been working perfectly since the repair! The cruise control issue was exactly as I suspected, just a faulty cable connection in the steering module that needed fixing. Really straightforward stuff in the end. The total bill came to 95€, which included the diagnostic work and fixing that dodgy connection. Honestly, it was way less painful than I expected, both for my car and my wallet! I'd say that's pretty reasonable considering all those warning lights had me thinking it was something much worse. Been about 8 months now since the fix, and I haven't had a single warning light or any problems with the cruise control. Everything in the steering wheel works like a charm, all buttons responsive, cruise control smooth as ever. Hope this helps give you a better idea of what you might be looking at cost-wise. Let us know how you get on at the garage next week! Though by the sounds of it, you might be dealing with something similar to what I had. Fingers crossed it's just as simple to sort out!

Just got back from the mechanic and wanted to share an update! Thanks everyone, especially for the detailed info about your experience. Turns out my issue was a bit different, had a failing sensor in the ABS system that was triggering all those warning lights and messing with the cruise control. The repair took about three hours and cost more than I expected, around 450 bucks including parts and labor. But honestly, I'm just relieved it's fixed. The mechanic was actually really good, showed me the faulty part and explained everything clearly. Such a different experience from my last garage nightmare! Everything's working perfectly now, no more warning lights, cruise control's back to normal, and all the steering wheel buttons are responding like they should. Guess sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and get these things sorted properly. Thanks again for helping me feel more confident about getting it checked out. Definitely made the right call taking it in before it got worse!

Let our mechanics help you!
