BMW iX2 Mirror Heat & Dimming Functions Not Working

Mirror doesn't defrost

Hi everyone! Having troubles with my 2024 BMW iX2. The mirror heating and dimming functions aren't working at all, and there's an error code stored in the system. I suspect it might be a faulty mirror heating unit. Has anyone dealt with similar mirror issues on their iX2? Would love to hear about your repair experiences and what the workshop found. Any tips on troubleshooting would be great. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! (Some experience with BMWs) I had a similar issue with my 2022 BMW iX3 (also have an iX4). The mirror heating and dimming stopped working completely. After checking at my local workshop, they found a loose connection in the wiring harness going to the mirror unit. They had to partially disassemble the door panel to access and fix the faulty cable connection. The whole repair took about an hour and cost me 95 Euro. Can you share if you're getting any specific error messages on your display? Also, did this happen suddenly or was it gradual? This info would help determine if you're dealing with the same issue I had. From my experience, this is usually a straightforward fix once they pinpoint the exact connection problem. Do let me know these details, and I'll share more specific insights.

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! I'm at 68667 KM since my last service, and yes, it happened quite suddenly, literally from one day to the next. The error message I'm getting is "Mirror System Malfunction" on the display cluster. What's interesting is that both mirrors stopped working simultaneously, which made me think it might be more than just a loose connection. Did your workshop mention anything about the system needing a software update? I'm wondering if this could also be a software-related issue since it's affecting both mirrors. I'll definitely have them check the wiring harness though, that seems like a good place to start. Also, did you notice any other electrical quirks before the mirrors stopped working? I haven't spotted anything else unusual with my iX2, but I'm keeping an eye out just in case.

Hey again! Oh wow, that's really similar to what happened with my iX3! When both mirrors stopped working at once, I initially thought it was a software thing too. But in my case, the wiring harness issue was affecting the main connection point where both mirror circuits meet, that's why both failed simultaneously. At 68k km, you're pretty close to where I was when it happened to me (I was around 71k). To answer your question, no, my workshop didn't mention anything about software updates being related. They actually found that the main connector block behind the driver's side door panel had some corrosion, which was causing both mirrors to malfunction. And funny you should ask about other electrical quirks, I did notice that my driver's side window switches felt a bit sluggish about a week before the mirror issue, but I didn't connect the dots at the time. Turns out they were all related to that same wiring harness problem. One thing I learned from my experience, if you're getting that same "Mirror System Malfunction" message I got, it's probably hardware-related rather than software. I'd definitely push them to check that main connector block first. It's usually a quicker fix than going down the software update route. Keep me posted on what they find, really curious if you've got the same issue I had!

Thanks so much for all this detailed info! You've actually made me feel a lot better about the whole situation. I just checked my driver's side window switches after reading your response, and come to think of it, they have been feeling a bit off lately too. I hadn't made that connection before! I've booked the car in for next week, and I'll definitely ask them to check that main connector block you mentioned. Makes total sense about both mirrors failing if it's the central connection point. I was getting worried it might be something major, but this sounds way more manageable than I initially feared. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience, especially the bit about the window switches being a potential early warning sign. I'll update you once I get it checked out. Fingers crossed it's just that connector block and nothing more serious! Thanks again for all your help!
