BMW iX2 Blower Failure & AUC Sensor Issues, Help Needed

Blower does not work properly

Having issues with my 2024 BMW iX2 climate control system. The blower stopped working and there's a strong smell coming through the vents when I'm stuck in traffic. Got an error code related to the AUC sensor. Has anyone dealt with this before? What did your mechanic find and how was it fixed? Really need some first-hand experiences to help diagnose this.

Hey there! I have some experience working on EVs. I dealt with a similar issue on my 2022 BMW iX3 (also have an iX1 in the family). The symptoms were nearly identical, blower issues and that nasty smell through the vents. Took it to my regular workshop and they found a loose cable connection to the AUC (Air Quality Sensor). The connector had come partially undone, causing the sensor to malfunction. Total repair was 95 Euro, mostly labor costs for accessing and fixing the connection. Working perfectly since then! But before jumping to conclusions, could you share: Does the smell occur only when the car is stationary? Have you noticed any decrease in AC performance? Are you getting any other warning lights? This info would help confirm if you're facing the same issue I had.

Thanks for sharing that experience! My iX2 has around 150729 KM on the clock and was last serviced about 3 weeks ago. The smell actually happens both when stationary and moving, but gets worse in traffic. AC performance seems normal until the blower acts up. No other warning lights except the AUC sensor one. Interesting that you had a similar connector issue, that gives me hope it might be something simple! I'll get my mechanic to check the connections first before diving into more complex repairs.

Yeah, that distance reading actually rings a bell! When my iX3 started having these issues, it was right around the 145K mark. Based on what you're describing, especially the smell being present while moving too, I'm starting to think it might be more than just the loose connection I had. Quick update on my situation, after the initial connector fix I mentioned, the problem actually came back about a month later. Turned out the AUC sensor itself was failing, not just the connection. The constant exposure to various air pollutants had degraded the sensor over time. The replacement sensor cost more (around 300 Euro) but totally solved the issues. Since your symptoms are so similar to what I experienced, and considering the mileage, I'd bet you're dealing with a worn-out sensor too. You mentioned it was serviced recently, did they do any diagnostic tests on the climate control system? Just want to add, if you decide to get the sensor replaced, make sure they check the ventilation ducts too. In my case, they found some debris had built up around the sensor area, which probably contributed to its early failure.

Thanks for the detailed follow-up! No, they didn't specifically check the climate control during the recent service, it was just routine maintenance. You've got me thinking it probably is the sensor itself, especially since we're at similar mileage points. Smart tip about checking the ventilation ducts too. I actually just called my mechanic and managed to get a slot for tomorrow morning. I'll definitely have them check both the sensor and the ducts, and probably just go ahead with replacing the sensor if needed. Rather spend the money now than risk bigger issues down the line. Really appreciate all the info, it's super helpful having someone who's been through the exact same thing! I'll update once I know what they find.

Let our mechanics help you!
