Error message in the speedometer

Hi everyone! My 2023 BMW iX1 electric has been acting up lately. Getting error messages on both the infotainment display and instrument cluster, plus there's a stored error code in the system. Has anyone experienced similar warning messages on their iX1? Would really appreciate hearing about your workshop experiences and how they resolved the issue. Trying to figure out if this is a common problem and what to expect at the service center. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I had a very similar issue with my 2021 BMW iX3 last year (also have an i4 in the family). Those error messages can be super annoying! Mine was showing multiple warnings and wouldn't reset even after several restarts. Took it to the workshop and turned out it was just a coding issue, basically, some software parameters weren't properly set after a previous update. Cost me around 360 Euro to get it sorted, but it's been running perfectly since then. The whole thing took about half a day to fix. Before I can share more specific details, could you tell us: Which exact error messages you're seeing? Did this start after a software update? Are you having any performance issues along with the warnings? Also, make sure you document those error codes, they'll be super helpful for the technicians.

Thanks for sharing your experience! My iX1 is fairly new with 197021 KM on the clock since the last service. I'm getting the "Drive System Error" message on the main display, accompanied by a "Restricted Power" warning on the instrument cluster. The error code showing is "BEV-2304." I haven't noticed this happening after any specific update, it just started out of nowhere last week. The car still drives, but it feels like it's not delivering full power, especially during acceleration. I'll definitely take your advice about documenting the error codes. It's reassuring to hear yours was just a coding issue, hoping mine will be similarly straightforward to fix!

Hey again! Yeah, those symptoms sound very familiar, especially that "Drive System Error" message. When I had my iX3 issue, I also experienced that power restriction thing you mentioned. It's super frustrating when you're trying to accelerate and the car just doesn't deliver what it should! The code you're getting (BEV-2304) is actually different from what I had (mine was BEV-2187), but these error codes often point to similar underlying issues in the drive system. Since your car only has 197021 KM, this is definitely something that should be covered under warranty. After my experience, I'd strongly recommend not waiting too long to get it checked out. When mine started showing these symptoms, I initially thought I could just live with it for a while, but that power restriction can actually be the car's way of protecting itself from potential damage. The good news is that in my case (and most others I've heard about), these issues are usually software-related rather than hardware problems. The techs will probably need to do a full diagnostic scan and possibly a software reset/update. Keep us posted on what they find, always good to share these experiences with other BMW EV owners!

Thanks so much for the detailed follow-up! You've definitely put my mind at ease about the whole situation. I've actually just booked an appointment at the workshop for next week, didn't want to risk any potential damage like you mentioned. Really appreciate the tip about it possibly being covered under warranty too, I hadn't even thought about that! Given what you've shared about your experience, I'm feeling much more confident about getting this sorted. At least now I know what to expect when I take it in. Will definitely update the thread once I get it back from the workshop, might help other iX1 owners if they run into similar issues. Thanks again for all your help and sharing your experience. It's super helpful to hear from someone who's been through something similar!

Hi, have an xr4, the display just shows a bunch of bars, the sound works but not the display/screen itself. It has been standing still for a while, what could be the problem with it, do I need to buy a new display?

Start by checking the display connections to ensure they are secure and not loose. Sometimes, a simple reconnection can resolve display issues. If the connections are fine, try performing a system reset or update, as software glitches can cause display problems. If the issue persists, it might be worth having a professional inspect it before considering a replacement. Let me know how it goes or if you have further questions!
