Thanks for sharing your experience! My iX1 is still drivable but those error messages are really concerning. Just had a service at 112303 KM, and everything was fine until yesterday. The main errors I'm seeing are "Electrical System Malfunction" and "Driver Assistance Systems Limited." The nav screen keeps showing "System Restart Required" but even after restarting, nothing changes. I tried the basic reboot by holding down the start button for 30 seconds, but that didn't help. Haven't had any recent software updates that I know of. Definitely sounds similar to what you experienced, I'll probably need to book it in for that control unit reprogramming. Really appreciate the heads up on what to expect!
Hey again! Yeah, those error messages you're describing are exactly what I experienced! It's like déjà vu reading your post. The "System Restart Required" message was particularly annoying on my iX3, kept popping up no matter what I tried. After my experience, I'd definitely recommend getting it checked ASAP. When mine started showing those exact same symptoms, I initially kept driving it for about a week, but then more systems started acting up. The driver assistance going limited was actually what pushed me to take it in, didn't want to risk any safety systems failing. The control unit reprogramming sorted everything out completely. Haven't had a single issue since then. Just make sure they do a full system backup before reprogramming, my technician mentioned this is crucial for BMWs. They did this with mine, and it helped preserve all my mechanical settings. One thing I learned from this, these new electric BMWs are super sensitive to software glitches. It's annoying, but at least it's usually fixable without replacing any hardware. Keep us posted on what your dealer finds! I'm curious to see if it's the same fix as mine.
Thanks so much for all the detailed info! That's really reassuring to hear your issue was resolved with reprogramming. I've just booked my iX1 in for next week, didn't want to risk waiting any longer after what you said about more systems potentially acting up. Really smart tip about making sure they do the system backup first, I'll definitely mention that when I drop it off. It's actually quite comforting to know I'm not alone in dealing with these software quirks. While these high-tech features are great when they work, they sure can be a headache when they don't! I'll make sure to update the thread once it's fixed. Thanks again for sharing your experience, it's been super helpful in understanding what I might be dealing with!
Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2021 BMW iX3 last year (I also own an i4). I have some experience working on cars, but electrical gremlins are definitely not my forte. When my iX3 started acting up with multiple error messages and a frozen nav screen, I first tried the old "turn it off and on again" trick, no luck. Took it to my regular workshop, and it turned out to be a control unit programming issue. They had to reprogram the entire system, which cost me around 240 Euro, but it fixed all the weird electrical problems. Before I can provide more specific advice, could you share: Are you able to still drive the car? Which exact error messages are you seeing? Has your iX1 had any recent software updates? These details would help me understand if you're dealing with the same issue I had.
