Thanks so much for sharing your experience! I'm really glad to hear you got it sorted out. That faulty cable connection issue sounds exactly like what I might be dealing with. Just curious, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the repair? Also, has everything been running smoothly since then, or have you noticed any other quirks pop up?
Hey there! Thanks for asking about the follow-up. Actually, I'm really happy to report that since getting it fixed, my i3s has been running like a dream, absolutely zero electrical gremlins! The repair bill came to 155 € for sorting out that dodgy cable connection to the BUS system. Money well spent if you ask me, considering how annoying those unusual glitches were. The mechanic definitely knew what they were doing, and they spotted the issue pretty quickly. Once they replaced that corroded cable and got everything properly connected again, all those frustrating warning lights and system quirks completely disappeared. I've put quite a few miles on it since then, and honestly, it's like having a different car, everything's responsive, no more unusual warning lights, and the infotainment system works exactly as it should. If your symptoms are similar to what I experienced, I'd say you're probably looking at the same issue. Better to get it sorted sooner rather than later!
Thanks for all that detail! I bit the bullet and took my iX1 to the mechanic yesterday. Turns out you were spot on, it was indeed a connection issue, though in my case it was a loose connector in the main control module that was causing all the chaos. The repair actually ended up being pretty straightforward. Cost me about 180 € including diagnostics, which wasn't too bad considering all the stress these glitches were causing. They had to clean up some minor corrosion and secure the connector properly. Got the car back today and wow, what a difference! No more unusual warning lights, the infotainment system is working perfectly, and all the controls are responding like they should. Feel a bit silly for waiting so long to get it checked out, but better late than never. Really appreciate you sharing your experience, it gave me the push I needed to get this sorted. Time to enjoy my properly functioning BMW again!
I had nearly identical issues with my 2019 BMW i3s. The symptoms started just like yours, unusual warning lights, unresponsive control units, and an infotainment system that had a mind of its own. Took it to the garage last month and it turned out to be a faulty cable connection between the main control unit and the BUS system. The cable had some corrosion and wasn't making proper contact. This affected multiple systems since the BUS network connects most electronic components in these BMWs. The repair wasn't too complex, but it was crucial to fix it promptly as it could've led to more serious electrical system failures. The technician had to replace the cable harness and recalibrate the control unit. Car's been running perfectly since then. Based on your description, it sounds very similar to what I experienced. Would definitely recommend getting it checked soon since electrical issues tend to cascade into bigger problems if left unaddressed.
