Air conditioning blows warm air

Having issues with my 2022 BMW iX1 climate control system. AC won't cool, rear ventilation controls aren't responding, and getting error messages. Main suspect is the rear ventilation flap. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? Looking for repair experiences and workshop solutions. What was the actual problem in your case and how was it fixed?

Hi! I have some experience with EVs and had a similar issue with my 2020 BMW i4 (also own a BMW iX3). The symptoms you describe really sound familiar. In my case, the issue was a faulty cable connection to the climate control module. I took it to my regular workshop, and they diagnosed a loose connector that was causing communication problems with the rear ventilation system. The fix wasn't too complicated, they had to remove some panels, reconnect and secure the cables properly. Cost me 95 Euro for the repair. Could you share some more details about your iX1? Like when did these symptoms start, and are you getting any specific error codes? This would help determine if it's the same problem I experienced. The good news is that if it's a similar connection issue, it's usually a straightforward fix and shouldn't take too long to repair.

Thanks for sharing your experience! I got my last service just two weeks ago at 155964 KM, and the issues started right after that, which makes me think something might have been disturbed during maintenance. I'm not getting any specific error codes, just a general "Climate Control System Error" on the display. What's interesting is that the issue seems to get worse when the car sits in hot weather for a while. I'll have it checked for loose connections first, based on your experience, seems like a logical place to start rather than replacing the entire flap mechanism straight away. Did your AC performance improve immediately after the fix? Really hoping it's just a connection issue like yours was.

Hey there again! Yes, I remember helping you with this earlier. That timing with the service visit definitely raises some eyebrows, had something similar happen with my i4 too. The AC performance in my case improved literally the moment they fixed that connection, it was like flipping a switch. But here's something I didn't mention in my first response: I also noticed the same thing about hot weather making it worse. When my car would sit in the heat, the system would act really wonky, sometimes not responding at all. Just a heads up though, since you mentioned it started after service, definitely bring that up with the workshop. In my case, they found that during a routine maintenance check, one of the techs had accidentally knocked a connector loose while accessing something else. They were pretty good about fixing it at no cost since it was their mistake. Quick tip: Before you take it in, try listening for any unusual clicking sounds when you change the temperature settings. In my case, there was this weird clicking noise from behind the dash that turned out to be related to the loose connection. Might help the techs pinpoint the issue faster. Let me know how it goes, really curious if it turns out to be the same issue as mine!

Thanks so much for the additional info! You're right, I just checked and I can actually hear that clicking sound you mentioned when adjusting the temperature. That's super helpful to know before I take it in. I'll definitely bring up the service timing when I talk to them. I've already scheduled an appointment for tomorrow morning, and I'll make sure to mention the hot weather connection and the clicking noise. Really feeling more confident now that it might just be that loose connection issue rather than something more serious. I'll keep you posted on what they find, but I'm actually feeling pretty optimistic now. The fact that your symptoms were so similar and it was such a straightforward fix is really reassuring. Really appreciate you taking the time to share all these details, they're going to be super helpful when I talk to the workshop tomorrow!
