Thanks for sharing your experience, that sounds really similar to what I'm dealing with! I'm going to get it checked soon based on what you've said. Just curious, do you remember roughly how much the whole repair set you back? Also, has everything been running smoothly since you got it fixed? I'd love to know what to expect.
Hey again! Glad I could help! Yeah, everything's been running perfectly since I got it sorted last month. The brake pedal feel is back to normal, and all warning lights are gone, such a relief! The total bill came to 480 € for fixing the worn brakes and topping up the brake fluid. The mechanic also recalibrated the regenerative braking system, which was included in the price. Worth every penny for the peace of mind, honestly. The brake fluid level low warning was definitely spot on, they found it was quite low when they checked. Once they topped it up and replaced the worn components, the difference in braking performance was like night and day. My i4's been perfect since the repair, no more weird pedal feel or warning lights. I've put about 1,500 km on it since then, and it's performing just like new. These EVs might have different brake wear patterns than regular cars, but once you get them sorted, they're solid! Let me know how you get on with yours!
Thanks so much for all the details! I actually just got back from the mechanic today. You were right, it needed immediate attention. The experience wasn't as bad as I feared! Turns out my issue was pretty similar to yours. The brake fluid was low, and they found some wear on the pads. The mechanic explained that the regenerative braking system needed recalibration, which was causing the weird pedal feel. Total bill came to 520 €, a bit more than yours but still reasonable considering everything they fixed. The best part? The car feels amazing now! The brake pedal is super responsive, all warning lights are off, and I can really feel the difference in the regenerative braking. Such a relief to have it sorted. Thanks again for pushing me to get it checked out quickly. You probably saved me from bigger problems down the road. Really appreciate your help with this!
Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2020 BMW i4 last month. The brake warning and pedal behavior you're describing sounds exactly like what I experienced. Initially thought it was just low brake fluid, but turned out my brake pads were pretty worn down, and the rotors needed attention too. Took it to the garage and they found that the regenerative braking system wasn't engaging properly, which put extra stress on the traditional brakes. The repair required replacement of brake pads, resurfacing of rotors, and recalibration of the regenerative braking system. It was a serious issue that needed immediate attention, not something you want to postpone. With EVs, the brake wear patterns can be different from conventional cars due to the regenerative braking system. My car had about 32,000 km when this happened. If you're seeing warning lights, don't wait too long. The brake system is too important to take chances with. Hope this helps with your decision.
