Wipers don't work properly

Help needed, BMW iX (2023) Wiper System Acting Up Hi there! I'm having issues with my 2023 BMW iX (electric, 26,415 km). The wipers have completely stopped working manually, but they out of nowhere turn on by themselves. The car's also showing an error code for this issue. Had a bad experience with my last mechanic, so I'm hesitant about where to take it. Has anyone dealt with similar wiper problems on their iX? Would really appreciate hearing about your experiences and recommendations for fixing this issue. Suspect it might be the wiper switch, but not sure.

I had a similar issue with my 2020 BMW i4 eDrive40. The unusual wiper activation and complete manual failure turned out to be a faulty connection in the rain sensor module and a corroded plug at the wiper motor. Last month, I had it checked at the dealership since this was potentially dangerous, especially during heavy rain. They found moisture had gotten into the connection housing and caused the electronic malfunction. The repair involved replacing the rain sensor module and cleaning/resealing the wiper motor connections. Not a major mechanical issue, but definitely something that needed immediate attention for safety reasons. The car was in the shop for about half a day to complete the fix. Since then, the wipers have been working perfectly, both in auto and manual mode. Given your iX is still quite new, this should be covered under warranty. I'd recommend going directly to a BMW dealer for this one, as they'll have the right diagnostic tools for the electrical system.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the i4! This sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with on my iX. Good to know it wasn't something super major. Been stressing about this for a bit since unusual wiper activation isn't exactly fun, especially on dry days. Can't remember if you mentioned, how much did they charge you for the whole repair? Also, have you had any other problems with the wiper system since they fixed it? Planning to take it to the dealer soon, just trying to get a better idea of what I'm in for.

Hey again! Just wanted to follow up on your questions about the repair costs. In my case, it turned out to be a pretty straightforward fix, just a dodgy cable connection that needed sorting out. Ended up paying 95 € to get it sorted, which wasn't too bad considering how annoying the problem was. And good news, since getting it fixed at the mechanic, I haven't had a single issue with the wipers! No more unusual activations or manual control problems. They're working exactly like they should now. Such a relief not having to deal with wipers suddenly springing to life on a clear day! Just a heads up though, your cost might be different since it could be a different underlying issue. But at least you won't have to worry about it if it's still under warranty. The important thing is getting it sorted for safety's sake, especially with winter coming up. Let us know how you get on at the dealer!

Thanks for all the info about the repair costs and follow-up! Just got back from the dealer today and wanted to share what happened. Turns out it was indeed a faulty connection, but in my case, it was a loose wire in the rain sensor module. Theyaged to fix it under warranty since my car's still pretty new. The whole thing took about four hours, but they gave me a loaner car, so it wasn't too inconvenient. The technician showed me the issue and explained everything clearly, much better experience than my last mechanic who always seemed to hide the details. Took it for a test drive afterward, and the wipers are working perfectly now, no more ghost activations or manual control issues! Such a relief to have this sorted. Really appreciate your help in pushing me to get this checked out at the dealer. Definitely the right call!
