BMW iX Wipers Have a Mind of Their Own

I had a similar issue with my 2020 BMW i4 eDrive40. The unusual wiper activation and complete manual failure turned out to be a faulty connection in the rain sensor module and a corroded plug at the wiper motor. Last month, I had it checked at the dealership since this was potentially dangerous, especially during heavy rain. They found moisture had gotten into the connection housing and caused the electronic malfunction. The repair involved replacing the rain sensor module and cleaning/resealing the wiper motor connections. Not a major mechanical issue, but definitely something that needed immediate attention for safety reasons. The car was in the shop for about half a day to complete the fix. Since then, the wipers have been working perfectly, both in auto and manual mode. Given your iX is still quite new, this should be covered under warranty. I'd recommend going directly to a BMW dealer for this one, as they'll have the right diagnostic tools for the electrical system.

Ended up paying 95 € to get it sorted, which wasn't too bad considering how annoying the problem was. And good news, since getting it fixed at the mechanic, I haven't had a single issue with the wipers! No more unusual activations or manual control problems. They're working exactly like they should now. Such a relief not having to deal with wipers suddenly springing to life on a clear day! Just a heads up though, your cost might be different since it could be a different underlying issue. But at least you won't have to worry about it if it's still under warranty.
