Hi everyone! My 2023 BMW iX has been acting up lately. The rain sensor, auto headlights, and instrument panel dimming stopped working completely. Getting error codes too. Had a bad experience with my last mechanic, so I'm hesitant about where to take it. The car has 116,719 km on it, and I suspect it might be the rain-light sensor unit. Has anyone dealt with similar issues on their iX? Would love to hear about your experiences and trusted repair shops. Thanks in advance!

I faced a similar issue with my 2020 BMW i4 last year. The windshield had bubbles forming under the gel pad where the sensor cluster sits, which caused the rain sensor and auto headlights to malfunction. Got multiple error codes too. Turned out the gel pad adhesive had deteriorated due to heat exposure, causing the sensor unit to lose proper contact with the windshield. The techs had to replace the entire sensor unit and reapply new mounting gel. It wasn't just a quick fix, they needed to carefully remove the old unit without damaging the windshield coating. It was a serious repair since these sensors are integrated into multiple safety systems. My car was in the shop for three days because they had to calibrate everything after the replacement. The symptoms you're describing match my experience exactly. Don't wait too long to get it checked, these sensors are crucial for proper operation of various assistance systems.

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! I'm getting my iX checked next week for the same problem. That sensor unit replacement sounds like exactly what I need. Would you mind telling me roughly how much you ended up paying for the whole repair? Also curious if you've had any other issues pop up since they fixed it? Really appreciate the help!

Hey there! Just wanted to follow up, got the repair done and it was exactly what you suspected. Those pesky bubbles under the gel pad were causing all the trouble. The mechanic replaced the mounting gel and recalibrated everything properly. Only cost me 62€, which was way less than I expected after my experience! I'm happy to report the rain sensor and auto headlights are working perfectly now. No more error codes popping up either. It's been several months since the fix and everything's still running smoothly, no other issues have shown up. The car feels like new again! Good call on getting yours checked soon. The whole repair was much simpler than my previous experience when they had to replace the entire unit. Just make sure they check the gel pad first before jumping to replacing the whole sensor cluster. Could save you some serious money. Hope your repair goes as smoothly as mine did this time around. Let me know how it turns out!

Thanks a lot for the update! Just got back from the mechanic today and you won't believe it, my repair was super simple too! The tech found the same issue with the gel pad and fixed it right up. Cost me a bit more than yours at 85€, but still way better than replacing the whole sensor unit. Funny story though, while I was waiting, this other BMW owner came in with a completely dead battery. Made my sensor problems seem pretty minor! The mechanic was great though. Really took the time to explain everything and even showed me the old gel pad with all its bubbles. The best part? All my systems are working perfectly now. Rain sensor kicks in exactly when it should, and those annoying error codes are gone. What a relief! Thanks again for your help, saved me from potentially spending way more than needed. Definitely keeping this mechanic's number for future reference!
