BMW iX Seat Controls Malfunction, Help Needed

Fault stored

Electric seats malfunction

Hi all! Having trouble with my 2023 BMW iX electric seat controls. The seat won't adjust with or without ignition, and even saved driver profiles only work after starting up. The system's throwing an error code too. I suspect it might be a fault with the passenger seat electronics. Has anyone dealt with similar seat adjustment issues in their iX? What was the diagnosis and how did your service center fix it? Would really appreciate hearing about your experiences and solutions. Thanks!

Hi there! I have some experience with EVs and went through something similar with my 2021 BMW i4 (love the BMW electric lineup, also considered the iX!). Had the exact same symptoms, seat controls completely dead, saved positions not working properly. Turned out my car's battery was heavily discharged, which affected various electrical systems including the seats. Took it to my regular workshop and they diagnosed it within an hour. The fix wasn't cheap, cost me 290 Euro for the battery service and system reset. Before you head to the service center though, could you share: Is your car throwing any specific error codes? Are you having issues with any other electrical systems? How long has this been happening? This info would help confirm if you're facing the same issue I did. These EVs are quite sensitive to battery health!

Hey, thanks for chiming in! I've got the same issue with my iX (33939 KM on the clock). Actually, besides the seat controls, I've noticed the infotainment system occasionally acts up too. The error code shows up right after startup, been happening for about a week now. I'm still under warranty, so I'll probably take it in soon. Just had my service done last month, everything was perfect then. Really appreciate your detailed response about the battery, that's super helpful and definitely sounds similar to what I'm experiencing. Did your issues start gradually or just pop up suddenly?

Oh hey again! Thanks for the extra details about your iX. That's interesting that you're seeing infotainment glitches too, my i4 actually had similar symptoms. In my case, it started pretty gradually. First, I noticed small problems with the seat memory, then it got worse over about two weeks until the seats wouldn't budge at all. Since you mentioned you're still under warranty and just had service done, this definitely sounds like it could be related to the battery system like what happened to me. But here's something I learned, it might not be the main battery. In my case, the 12V auxiliary battery was the culprit, which powers a lot of the comfort features. Quick question, have you noticed any other electrical quirks? Like delayed responses when using the key fob or maybe flickering interior lights? These were some other symptoms I experienced before getting mine fixed. Also, good call on planning to take it in while under warranty. Saved me a bunch compared to what I had to pay out of pocket. The service center should be able to run a full diagnostic on both batteries to pinpoint the exact issue. Would love to hear what they find when you get it checked out. These electric BMWs are fantastic cars, but they can be a bit finicky with their electrical systems sometimes!

Thanks for all that additional info! Actually, now that you mention it, I have noticed my key fob being a bit sluggish lately, didn't think to connect the dots until you brought it up. Makes total sense about the 12V auxiliary battery being separate from the main one. That could explain why everything was fine during my regular service last month. I've already called the service center and booked it in for next week. They seemed pretty familiar with these symptoms when I described them, which is reassuring. I'll definitely keep you posted about what they find, hoping it's just the auxiliary battery like in your case. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. It's given me a much better idea of what to expect when I take it in. These EVs are definitely different beasts when it comes to electrical issues compared to traditional cars! Glad I'm still under warranty though, that's definitely going to help with the costs. I'll update this thread once I get the diagnosis. Thanks again for the help!
