BMW iX Radio Glitches: DAB and Audio System Failures

Audio system is not working

Error message in the infotainment system

Hi all! Having some frustrating issues with my 2022 BMW iX (electric). The infotainment system is acting up, DAB radio keeps cutting out completely, and sometimes I get error messages. The entire audio system occasionally stops working altogether. Has anyone experienced similar problems with their iX? My car only has 13,698 km on it. Had a not-so-great experience with my mechanic last time, so I'd really appreciate hearing about your experiences and which fixes worked for you. Thanks in advance!

I had a similar issue with my 2020 BMW i4 last year. The antenna module was actually defective, causing those exact symptoms, DAB cutting out and complete audio system failures. Had it checked at the garage and they found that the antenna amplifier was faulty. The diagnostic showed signal interruptions between the antenna and the head unit. They had to replace the entire antenna module and reprogram the system. It wasn't a major mechanical issue, but it was definitely annoying since the entertainment system is such a core part of the driving experience. After the replacement, everything worked perfectly again. Given your car's low mileage, this should be covered under warranty. My advice would be to have the dealer run a full diagnostic on the antenna and amplifier system. The symptoms are too similar to be coincidental.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience, that's really helpful! I'm pretty sure it's the same issue with my iX since the symptoms match exactly what you described. Do you remember roughly how much you paid for the repair? Also curious if you've had any other electrical gremlins pop up since they fixed the antenna module? Would love to be prepared for what might come next.

Hey there! Just wanted to follow up since I saw your questions. After getting my i4 fixed, I haven't had a single problem with the audio or any other electrical systems, it's been running like a charm. The antenna replacement sorted everything out completely. About the cost, I ended up paying 255 € for the whole job, including the new antenna module and the reprogramming work. But honestly, given how annoying those reception issues were, it was totally worth it. The radio now comes through crystal clear, and I haven't had any more of those frustrating system crashes or DAB cutouts. For what it's worth, I've put quite a few kilometers on the car since the repair, and everything's still working perfectly. I don't think you'll need to worry about any other electrical issues popping up, it really seems like the antenna module was the culprit in my case. Hope this helps with your decision!

Just got back from the mechanic, and I wanted to update everyone. Turns out you were spot on! Had a much better experience this time with a different repair shop. They diagnosed the faulty antenna module right away and got it fixed under warranty since my car's still pretty new. The whole process was surprisingly quick, dropped it off in the morning and picked it up later that day. The mechanic was super helpful and showed me exactly what was wrong. Been driving for a few days now, and the entertainment system's working perfectly, no more unusual cutouts or error messages. Really glad I asked here first. Saved me from going through all that trial and error with the dealer. The best part? Since it was under warranty, I didn't have to pay anything. What a relief compared to my last mechanic visit! Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction with this one.
