BMW iX Door Control & Sensor Issues, Help Needed

Vehicle cannot be unlocked or locked

Having issues with my 2022 BMW iX where the door control system is acting up. Getting error messages about doors not being closed, and both manual and automatic locking systems aren't working properly. I suspect it might be related to the door contact sensor, but not entirely sure. Has anyone dealt with similar door control problems on their iX? Would really appreciate hearing about your repair experience and what the actual issue turned out to be.

Hey there! I have some experience working on EVs and faced a similar issue with my 2020 BMW i4 (also had a chance to work on an iX3). I got those exact same symptoms, false door warnings and weird locking behavior. Took it to my regular workshop and turns out it was a loose connection in the door wiring harness. The cable connecting to the door sensor was barely making contact. Total repair cost was 95 Euro, mainly labor since they just needed to secure and properly reseat the connection. Before I go into more details, could you tell me if you're getting any specific error codes? Also, is this happening with all doors or just one particular door? This info would help narrow down if you're dealing with the same issue I had. The repair was pretty quick once they identified the problem, took about an hour. Haven't had any door control issues since then.

Thanks for sharing your experience! My iX just hit 73271 KM and I had its service last month. In my case, it's specifically the front passenger door showing these issues. No specific error codes showing up on the display, just the generic "door open" warning, even when it's properly shut. The automatic soft-close feature isn't engaging either. Based on what you're describing, it does sound similar to your situation. Did your mechanics mention how common this issue is with the newer BMW EVs? I'll probably take it to the shop this week, but wanted to get some insights from fellow owners first.

Hey again! Thanks for the additional details about your iX. Yeah, the symptoms you're describing are spot on with what I experienced with my i4. When I had the issue, the mechanics actually told me they'd seen quite a few similar cases with newer BMW EVs, especially the i4 and iX models. Something about the complexity of the door electronics making them a bit more prone to these connection issues. In my case, after they fixed that loose connection, they also did a quick software reset of the door control module just to be on the safe side. The whole soft-close feature started working perfectly after that. It's been about 8 months now since the repair, and I haven't had a single door-related warning pop up. Just a heads up, while my issue was a simple loose connection, the mechanics mentioned that sometimes the door control module itself can be the culprit. But given what you're describing, especially with the soft-close not engaging, I'd put money on it being a wiring issue like mine was. One thing I learned from this, if you're hearing any unusual clicking sounds from the door when you open or close it, definitely mention that to the mechanics. That was actually a symptom I had initially ignored, but it turned out to be related to the loose connection. Let me know how it goes at the shop! I'm curious to hear if it ends up being the same issue.

Thanks so much for all the detailed info! That's really helpful, especially knowing about the clicking sound, now that you mention it, I have been hearing something like that but didn't think much of it. It's reassuring to hear this seems to be a known issue with these models and not something more serious. I've booked an appointment at the shop for Thursday morning. Will definitely ask them to check the wiring connections first and maybe do that software reset you mentioned. The fact that your repair cost was reasonable and only took about an hour is a relief, I was worried it might be something more expensive or time-consuming. I'll keep an eye out for those symptoms you described and make sure to mention them to the mechanic. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. I feel much more confident about getting this sorted now!
