BMW iX Climate Panel Dead: No Heat, No AC Control

A/C System Not Engaging

Hey everyone! Having trouble with my 2022 BMW iX (58,598 KM). The climate control panel keeps flashing and nothing works anymore, no air distribution control, weak heating, and AC won't turn on at all. Had a not-so-great experience with my last mechanic, so I'm hesitant to go back. Has anyone dealt with similar climate control issues in their iX? What was the problem and where did you get it fixed? Really appreciate any insights on this!

I experienced something very similar with my 2019 BMW i3s. Last month, the climate control system showed the exact same symptoms, flickering display, no response from the controls, and poor temperature regulation. Took it to the garage and they diagnosed it as a faulty cable harness connection to the climate control module. Some pins in the main connector had corroded, causing intermittent connection issues. The technician had to replace the entire wiring harness assembly and recalibrate the climate control system. It wasn't just a quick fix, they needed special diagnostic tools to properly reset the system after the repair. While not the most serious issue, it definitely needed immediate attention as it could have led to more significant electrical problems if left unchecked. Worth getting it checked soon. These electrical gremlins in EVs can be tricky if not addressed properly.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience! This really helps, sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with. Good to know it was the cable harness in your case. Just wondering, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the whole repair? Also, has everything been working smoothly since they fixed it, or have you noticed any other quirks?

Happy to give you an update! Since my last message, I actually took your advice and got my i3s looked at by a certified mechanic. The climate control panel issue was indeed fixed, turned out to be exactly what I suspected, a faulty cable connection to the control module. The total bill came to 95 € which included the diagnostic work and fixing the defective plug connection. Pretty reasonable, if you ask me. Since the repair, everything's been working perfectly, no more flashing display, the heating and cooling are back to full strength, and all the controls respond as they should. Actually quite relieved it wasn't anything more serious. You know how these electrical issues can sometimes spiral into bigger problems. The mechanic did a great job explaining everything and the fix seems really solid. If you're still having trouble with yours, I'd definitely recommend getting it checked out. These symptoms are pretty typical of a connection problem, and it's usually a straightforward fix once they pinpoint the exact issue. Let me know how you get on!

Thanks for sharing all those details! I actually took my iX to a certified shop yesterday after our chat. what a relief, the issue was pretty similar to what you described. The mechanic found some corroded connections in the control module, but in my case, they also had to replace a sensor. Bill came to around 150 plus labor, which wasn't as bad as I feared. Everything's working perfectly now, no more flashing display, and the AC's blowing nice and cold again. You were right about getting it checked out quickly. The technician was really thorough and even showed me what was causing the problem. Guess I was worried for nothing about finding a good mechanic! The whole experience was way better than my last repair shop visit. Thanks again for pushing me to get it looked at. Sometimes you just need that extra bit of encouragement to deal with these car issues!
