Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! Really helpful to know about the pedal sensor assembly, I'll definitely keep that in mind. Just curious, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the whole repair? Also, has everything been working smoothly since they fixed it? I've been putting off taking mine in because of the potential cost, but you're right about not taking chances with the brakes. Think I'll look into certified shops near me.
Hey there! Actually, I got lucky with my i3s issue, turned out to be much simpler than I initially thought! After taking it to the certified shop, they discovered it was just the brake light switch that was acting up, not the whole pedal assembly like I feared. Even better news, it was just a minor adjustment needed, not even a part replacement. Since my last post, everything's been working perfectly, no more warning lights or error codes. The regenerative braking is back to normal too. The best part? Since it was basically just a mechanical error that needed adjusting, I didn't have to pay anything! The mechanic sorted it out in about 20 minutes. Really glad I didn't waste more time worrying about it. Sometimes these EVs can seem complicated, but occasional glitches can have simple fixes. Still think you're making the right call getting it checked at a certified shop though, better to have someone who knows these systems inside out!
What a relief to hear back! Just wanted to update you all, I took your advice and finally got my iX checked out at a certified shop today. You won't believe it, but my issue turned out to be pretty minor too! The mechanic found that some dirt had gotten into the brake light switch connector, causing those annoying warning lights. They cleaned it out, ran a full diagnostic, and everything's working perfectly now. The whole thing took less than an hour and cost way less than I was expecting. The mechanic also gave it a quick inspection and said everything else looks great. Really glad I didn't try fixing it myself or take it to my usual shop. These EVs definitely need special attention, but sometimes the fix is simpler than we think. Thanks again for pushing me to get it checked out, saved me from stressing about it any longer!
I had a similar issue with my 2018 BMW i3s last month. The brake light warning showed up along with error codes, and I initially thought it was just a faulty switch too. Turns out it was more serious, the brake pedal sensor assembly had completely failed, which also affected the regenerative braking system. Had to get it fixed at a certified shop because it's tied into the car's electric systems. Not a simple DIY job since these electric BMWs have integrated safety systems. The repair involved replacing the entire pedal assembly unit and recalibrating the braking system. My suggestion would be to skip independent mechanics for this one. The brake system in electric BMWs is pretty complex with the regenerative setup, so you'll want someone who knows these specific models. Better safe than sorry when it comes to brakes, especially on an EV.
