BMW iX Brake Warning Lights & Pedal Issues: Solutions?
Spongy/unresponsive brakes

Thanks for sharing your experience! My iX just hit 63312 KM. No other electrical problems at all, everything was running smoothly until last week when these warnings suddenly popped up during my drive home from my latest service. Honestly, I'm a bit worried since it's still relatively new. Really hoping it's just a sensor acting up like in your case and not something more serious. What other symptoms did you notice before getting it fixed? Did your brake pedal also feel spongy?
Hey again! Thanks for those details about your iX. Actually, yes, my brake pedal felt really spongy right before all those warnings showed up! The timing of your issue is really interesting, happening right after service. You know what? That's exactly when my problems started too with my i4. In my case, I noticed the brake pedal would sometimes feel normal for a few minutes after starting the car, then get that weird feedback. The fact that yours popped up suddenly after service makes me think even more that it could be similar to what I experienced, that faulty sensor issue I mentioned. Before I got it fixed, I also noticed that the warnings would sometimes clear up after turning the car off and on again, but they'd always come back. Did you notice anything like that? Mine turned out to be definitely not worn brakes, it was all down to that voltage sensor throwing everything off. Since you're at 63K km, it's probably worth having them check if any connections got disturbed during the service. When they fixed mine, they actually found that one of the sensors had been slightly knocked out of alignment during routine maintenance. The brake warnings were basically a domino effect from that one small issue. Would love to hear what you find out, keeps me informed for if it ever happens again on my BMW!
Thanks for all that detailed info! Yes, actually, I've noticed exactly the same thing with the warnings sometimes clearing after restarting the car. Really relieved to hear yours wasn't a major brake issue. Just called my service center and got an appointment for tomorrow morning. I mentioned the connection with the recent service visit and they seemed quite interested in that detail. They're going to specifically check those sensors and voltage readings you mentioned. Will definitely keep you updated on what they find. Hopefully it's just a simple fix like yours was. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience, it's made me feel much better about the whole situation. These high-tech EVs are amazing but sometimes their complexity can make troubleshooting a bit nerve-wracking!
Hey there! As someone with some experience working on EVs, I've actually dealt with something very similar on my 2020 BMW i4 (love BMWs, also owned an i3). Had the exact same warnings pop up, brake pedal felt weird and got those ESP/ABS lights. Took it to my regular workshop and turns out it was an undervoltage issue affecting multiple systems. The repair cost me around 240 Euro, they had to recalibrate the voltage management system and replace a faulty sensor. Before I share more specific details about what my mechanic did, could you share: How many miles/km on your iX? Are you experiencing any other electrical issues? Did these warnings come on suddenly or gradually? This info would help me understand if you're dealing with the same problem I had. These electrical gremlins can be tricky in EVs!
