Hey everyone! Having some trouble with my 2021 BMW iX. The air suspension seems off, car's sitting unevenly between front and rear. Getting warning lights in the dash, and the headlights are misaligned. Scan showed height control system errors. Has anyone dealt with similar suspension issues on their iX? What was the actual problem and how did your workshop fix it? Hoping to get some insight before taking it in. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I have some experience with EVs and actually faced something very similar with my 2019 BMW i4 (I also own an i3). Your symptoms sound really familiar to what I went through last summer. The control rod on one of my level sensors was defective, causing similar warning lights and uneven ride height. Had it diagnosed and fixed at my workshop, the whole thing cost me 110 Euro and took about 2 hours to sort out. Before I share more specifics about my repair experience, could you share: How long has this been happening? Does the uneven height change when you switch drive modes? Are you getting any specific error codes? This info would help me understand if you're dealing with the same issue I had. Cheers!

Hey, thanks for chiming in! My iX just hit 143,032 KM and had its last service about 3 weeks ago. This issue started just a few days ago. The uneven height stays the same regardless of drive mode selection. Getting error code 5F3A on my scanner, seems to point to the suspension control system. Really appreciate the info about your experience with the level sensors. That's super helpful and definitely sounds similar to what I'm experiencing. I'll make sure to mention this to my workshop when I take it in. Did you notice any other symptoms before getting it fixed?

Hey again! Yeah, now that you mention the error code and mileage, it definitely sounds like what I dealt with on my i4. Before I got it fixed, I noticed a few other things, the ride got progressively bumpier, especially on one side, and the car would sometimes make this weird clicking noise when adjusting height after being parked for a while. In my case, the level sensor started acting up around 130,000 KM, so your timing lines up pretty well too. The error code you're getting (5F3A) is exactly what my scanner showed. The funny thing is, my workshop initially thought it might be a software issue and tried updating the control module, but that didn't solve it. When they finally checked the level sensor control rod, it was clearly worn out, had some play in it and wasn't sending accurate readings to the system. That's why the car couldn't maintain proper height and the headlights were misaligned. Quick tip, when you take it in, ask them to check all four level sensors while they're at it. My mechanic said these usually wear out in pairs, so might be worth replacing both front or both rear sensors at once to prevent future issues. Let me know how it goes when you get it checked out!

Thanks so much for all the detailed info! That's really good to know about the sensors wearing out in pairs, definitely going to ask my workshop to check all of them. The clicking noise you mentioned is exactly what I've been hearing too, just didn't connect it to the suspension issue until now. I've actually just booked it in for next week, and I feel much better prepared knowing what to discuss with them. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience, especially those specific details about the sensor control rod and the failed software update attempt. Will definitely update you once I get it sorted! Thanks again for all your help!
