BMW i8 Massage Seat Malfunction: Switch Problem?

Massage seat without function

|

Fault stored

Hi everyone, my 2014 BMW i8 has some weird issues with the massage seats. The massage function either won't turn on at all or stays stuck when it's running. The diagnostic shows an error code related to this problem. I suspect it might be a faulty massage seat switch. Has anyone dealt with similar issues? Would love to know what the repair process was like and what the actual problem turned out to be. Any input from those who got this fixed would be really helpful.

Hi there! I have some experience working on cars and faced a similar issue with my 2012 BMW i3. The massage seats started acting up just like yours, sometimes not working, other times getting stuck mid-massage. Super annoying! I took it to my regular workshop, and they found it was just a loose connection in the wiring harness going to the seat control module. They had to remove the seat cover to access it, but it was a pretty straightforward fix. Cost me 95 Euro to get it sorted. The other BMW in my garage (a 535i) has been trouble-free in the seat department, thankfully. Could you tell me if you've noticed any other electrical issues with the seats (like heating or position memory) or if it's just the massage function? Also, what's the exact error code you're getting? This would help me understand if you're dealing with the same problem I had.

Thanks for sharing your experience! My issue seems quite similar. The heating and position memory are working fine, it's just the massage function giving me trouble. I've had the car for about 3 years now (currently at 62363 KM), and this is the first time I'm encountering this problem. The error code I'm getting is B7F3D2. It started acting up about a week after my latest service, which is kind of frustrating. I'll definitely have my mechanic check the wiring harness connection, seems like a good place to start. Did your loose connection also trigger an error code?

Hey again! Yes, your situation definitely sounds familiar. When I had the issue with my i3, I actually got the same error code, B7F3D2. What's interesting is that mine also started acting up shortly after a service too, which made me wonder if something got knocked loose during the maintenance work. In my case, the loose connection was triggering that specific error code. When the mechanic dug deeper, they found that during the service, someone had slightly disturbed the wiring while working on something else. These massage seat systems are pretty sensitive to any wiring disruptions. Since you mentioned it's been fine for 3 years until now, and the timing with the service is similar to what happened to me, I'm even more convinced it's probably the same issue. The good news is that if it is just a wiring connection problem like mine was, it's not a huge job to fix. Just make sure your mechanic takes a good look at all the connections before replacing any parts. In my case, they initially thought it might need a new switch or control module, which would've cost way more. Really glad they checked the wiring first! Let me know how it goes when you get it checked out. I'm curious to know if it ends up being the same problem. These BMW electronics can be tricky sometimes, but usually, it's something relatively simple like this.

That's really reassuring to hear that you had the exact same error code and it was just a wiring issue! You're right, the timing with the service can't be a coincidence. I've booked my car in for next week, and I'll definitely ask them to check the wiring connections first before jumping to replacing any expensive parts. I was initially worried it might be something major with the seat control module or that I'd need to replace the entire massage system. The fact that yours was fixed with a simple wiring check gives me hope that it'll be a similar straightforward fix. I really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience, saved me from potentially spending a lot more than necessary. I'll update the thread once I get it sorted for anyone else who might have the same problem in the future.
