BMW i5 Wiper System Failure: EV Owners Need to Know

Wipers don't work properly

|

Fault stored

Hi there! Having some issues with my 2024 BMW i5 (EV) that's really concerning me after a previous bad experience with a mechanic. The wipers have completely stopped working, both manual and auto modes are dead, and there's an error code showing up. I'm suspecting it might be the wiper relay. Has anyone dealt with similar wiper system failures in their i5? My car has about 132K km on it, and I'd really appreciate hearing about your experiences and trusted mechanic recommendations for this specific issue. Thanks in advance for any help!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2021 BMW iX3 last month. The wiper failure problem turned out to be more than just a relay issue in my case. The technician found that the wiper control module's wiring harness had corroded connection pins, causing intermittent failures and error codes. Initially thought it was minor, but the diagnostic revealed the control module needed replacement along with the wiring harness. The issue wasn't too severe, but leaving it unfixed could've led to bigger problems, especially during bad weather. They also updated the system software as part of the fix. The repair took about half a day at the shop. Since you're driving an i5, I'd strongly suggest getting it checked at a certified EV specialist who knows BMW's electrical systems. These issues aren't something you want to leave unattended, especially with winter coming up. Best of luck with the repair.

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience with the wiper issue. That's actually really helpful as I'm dealing with something similar right now. Mind if I ask how much the repair ended up costing you? Also, has everything been working smoothly since the fix, or have you noticed any other electrical quirks? Not trying to jinx you, just want to know what to keep an eye out for with mine.

Hey again! Just wanted to follow up about my wiper repair costs and experience. Actually, I got pretty lucky compared to my initial situation, turned out it wasn't nearly as complex as I'd feared. The mechanic found it was just a faulty wiper relay with a bad cable connection. Total bill came to 95 € to fix the plug connection, which was way less than I was expecting after my initial experience! Since getting it fixed, everything's been working perfectly, no more wiper issues or error codes at all. It's such a relief, especially since I was worried it might be something more serious like the whole control module I mentioned before. The wipers are now responding perfectly in both manual and auto modes, and I haven't noticed any other electrical issues. Really glad I got it checked out when I did. Sometimes these things turn out simpler than we expect! Let me know if you need any other info about the repair. Take care!

Thanks so much for the update! That's actually really reassuring to hear. I bit the bullet and took my car to a certified BMW technician yesterday. You won't believe it, my issue was almost identical! A loose connection and slightly corroded wiper relay were the culprits. The whole thing cost me about 120 bucks, which honestly feels like a bargain considering how worried I was. The mechanic was super transparent, showed me the issue, and fixed it right there. No sketchy upselling or unnecessary parts replacement like my last experience. The wipers are working perfectly now, tested them thoroughly on my way home. Such a relief to have this sorted without breaking the bank! Really appreciate you sharing your experience, helped me feel more confident about getting it checked out promptly rather than waiting for it to get worse. Thanks again for all your help with this!
