Thanks so much for sharing your experience! Really glad I'm not the only one who's dealt with this. My mind is a bit more at ease now knowing it might just be a connection issue rather than something major. Do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying to get it all sorted? Also, has everything been working properly since the repair, or have you noticed any other electrical quirks popping up?
Hey there! Really happy to follow up on this. Yeah, I got it all fixed up, went to see the mechanic last week actually. The total bill came to 95 € for fixing what turned out to be exactly what I suspected, just a dodgy cable connection to the turn signal. They cleaned up the corroded bits and replaced one damaged plug that was causing all the drama. The best news is that everything's working perfectly now! The turn signals are behaving themselves, no more weird purple tints in the headlights, and all those annoying warning messages have completely disappeared. Haven't had a single electrical problem since the repair. It's such a relief when these things turn out to be simple fixes, right? Especially with these modern electric vehicles, you always worry it's going to be something super complicated and expensive. But sometimes it really is just a basic connection issue. Pretty happy with how it all turned out!
What a relief! Just got back from the mechanic myself and you were spot on. They found the exact same issue, corroded connections in the wiring harness. The repair was pretty quick and straightforward. My bill was actually a bit less than yours, and everything's working perfectly now. The weird purple tint in the headlights is gone, and those annoying warning messages have disappeared. Such a load off my mind! Funny thing is, while I was waiting at the shop, another i5 owner came in with similar issues. Guess it might be a common problem with these models. Really glad I asked here first, saved me a lot of worry and probably some money too. Thanks again for your help. Nice to know these fancy electric cars can sometimes have simple fixes just like any other vehicle!
I had nearly identical issues with my 2021 BMW i4 last year. The lighting system problems and weird error messages turned out to be a faulty connection in the main wiring harness that connects to the lighting control module. Initially thought it was serious since multiple systems were affected, but the root cause was actually just corrosion on the connector pins. The garage cleaned and reseated all the connections, and also had to replace one damaged plug that was causing intermittent signal issues. Definitely get it checked soon, while my fix wasn't major, leaving electrical issues unaddressed can lead to bigger problems. My turn signals were doing the same thing before the repair, and the headlights had that purple tint you mentioned. Not sure about your specific mechanic situation, but any certified BMW technician who's familiar with the i-series should be able to diagnose this pretty quickly with the right diagnostic tools.
