BMW i5 Height Control Issue: Warning Light & Misalignment

Thanks for sharing your experience! My i5 actually started showing these symptoms about a week ago, and it was pretty sudden. Just had my regular service done at 118235 KM, and everything was fine until last Tuesday when I hit a nasty bump while parking. No other warning lights besides the height control one. In my case, I'm a bit worried it might be more than just a sensor issue since I heard that distinctive clunk. I've also noticed the ride feels a bit stiffer on the right side. Did your iX make any unusual noises when this happened? I'm considering taking it in since it's still under warranty, but wanted to get some community feedback first.

Hey again! Ah, that clunking sound you mentioned definitely rings a bell, my iX did something similar after I hit a bad bump too. But in my case, the noise went away after a day or so. The fact that you're still getting that stiffness on the right side makes me think it might be more than just the sensor issue I had. You know what? Given that you're still under warranty and the symptoms started right after hitting that bump, I'd definitely recommend getting it checked out at the dealer. While my sensor replacement was a quick fix, yours sounds like it could be related to the actual suspension components. The clunk and the stiff ride aren't symptoms I experienced with just the faulty sensor. Just a heads up, when I had similar issues (though less severe) with my iX, I learned it's better to get these things sorted quickly. These modern EVs have pretty complex suspension systems, and what starts as a small issue can sometimes lead to bigger problems if left unchecked. Quick question, have you tried doing the manual height calibration through the infotainment system? It's under vehicle settings. Might be worth a shot while you wait for your dealer appointment, though I suspect it won't fix the underlying issue in your case. Let us know what the dealer says when you get it checked out!

Given's advice, I'll share my final thoughts as: Thanks so much for the detailed response! You're probably right about getting it checked at the dealer ASAP. I actually tried the manual calibration you mentioned, but no luck, still getting that stiffness and the clunk. Just booked an appointment for tomorrow morning actually. Really appreciate your insights about the potential suspension component damage versus just a sensor issue. Makes total sense, especially with that clunk sound persisting. Better safe than sorry while it's under warranty! I'll definitely update the thread once I hear back from the dealer. Really helpful to hear from someone who's dealt with similar issues, even if yours turned out to be a simpler fix. Fingers crossed it's nothing too major. Thanks again for taking the time to help troubleshoot this!

Hey there! I had some experience with this issue on my 2022 BMW iX. I'd say I have some experience working on EVs, but mostly basic maintenance stuff. Had almost the exact same symptoms, misaligned height, warning lights, wonky headlights. Turned out to be a faulty control rod sensor. Took it to my regular workshop, and they diagnosed it pretty quickly. Cost me around 110 Euro for the fix, including labor. They replaced the sensor, recalibrated the system, and everything's been working perfectly since. Before I can give you more specific advice, could you share: How long has this been happening? Did it start suddenly or gradually? Have you hit any significant bumps or potholes recently? Any other warning messages showing up? Also, some of these issues can be brand/model specific, my experience with the iX might be relevant since they share similar systems with the i5. The i4 had similar sensor issues too, from what I've heard at the workshop. Let me know those details and I'll try to help more!
