Hey there! Just wanted to follow up, since seeing the mechanic last week, the electric seat issue has been completely sorted out. It cost me 95 € to fix, which covered the repair of the faulty cable connection and plug component. Honestly, it was cheaper than I expected! And to answer your other question, nope, haven't had any other electrical problems since the repair. Everything's working smooth as butter now. The seats move perfectly in all directions and the memory settings are working like they should. Just make sure whoever looks at yours knows their way around BMW electrical systems. The diagnostic part is really important to get right. But once they figure out exactly what's wrong, it's usually a pretty straightforward fix. Hope you get yours sorted soon!
Thanks so much for the detailed follow-up! You've made me feel a lot better about this whole situation. I actually just got back from the mechanic today and wanted to update you all. Turned out it was indeed an electrical issue, a damaged wire harness and some corrosion on the connectors, pretty similar to what you experienced. The repair took about 4 hours and cost a bit more than yours, but totally worth it. The seats are working perfectly now, all positions, memory settings, everything. Such a relief! The mechanic I found was really knowledgeable about BMW systems, explained everything clearly, and did a thorough job. I'm glad I didn't put this repair off any longer. Thanks again for your help and sharing your experience, really helped me make the decision to get it fixed right away rather than waiting. Sometimes these electrical issues aren't as scary (or expensive) as they first seem!
Had the same issue with my 2017 BMW i3. The power seat completely stopped responding one morning. Took it to the garage last week, turned out it was a faulty connection in the wiring harness under the seat. The connector had worked itself loose and got corroded. The mechanic cleaned the connector pins, replaced the damaged wiring section, and secured the harness properly. Not a major mechanical issue, but definitely needed professional attention since it involved the electrical system. The seat control module also needed a reset after the repair. Took about half a day to fix, and the seats have been working perfectly since then. Make sure you go to someone who knows BMW electrical systems well, these issues can be tricky to diagnose if they don't have the right diagnostic equipment.
