Airbag warning light

Hey there, glad you shared your experience! Had the same problem with the wiring harness on my iX3 too. It's good to know I wasn't the only one dealing with this issue. Do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the fix? Also, curious if you've had any other warning lights pop up since they sorted out the connection? Would be good to know if I should keep an eye out for anything else.
Hey again! Happy to help with those details. Just got my car back from the BMW service center last week actually. The total bill came to 95€ for fixing that pesky cable connection under the seat. Pretty reasonable considering all the worrying it caused me! And good news, since they fixed it, my airbag system has been working perfectly. No more warning lights on the dash at all. They explained it was just that one faulty connection in the wiring harness that was causing all the trouble. Once they secured it properly and reset the system, everything went back to normal. I know we were both stressing about it, but turns out it was a pretty simple fix. Haven't had any other warning lights or issues pop up since then. The car's running like a dream. Just keep an eye on your dash as usual, but I wouldn't worry too much about future problems, seems like this was just one of those unusual things that can happen with any car. Let me know how yours works out when you get it fixed!
Thanks for all those details about the repair costs and follow-up! Just got back from the mechanic myself today. Took your advice and tried a different BMW service center, what a difference! The technician found the same issue with the wiring harness, but also noticed a small fault in the seat sensor. Got both fixed in about two hours. Bill came to a bit more than yours because of the sensor replacement, but totally worth it for the peace of mind. Funny how we worry so much about these warning lights, but sometimes it's just a simple fix. The new mechanic was great, explained everything clearly and showed me exactly what was wrong. No more warning lights on my dash now, and the car's running perfectly. Really appreciate you sharing your experience, helped me feel much better about getting it sorted. Will definitely stick with this new service center for future maintenance. Sometimes a bad experience with one mechanic leads you to find a much better one!
Had exactly the same issue with my 2018 BMW iX3. The airbag warning light came on suddenly. Turned out to be a loose connection in the wiring harness under the driver's seat. My mechanic found that the cable plug for the seat occupancy sensor had worked itself loose over time, causing intermittent connection issues. The fix was pretty straightforward, they had to reconnect and secure the plug properly, then reset the airbag warning system. While it wasn't a serious safety concern in my case, anything airbag-related should be checked promptly. These systems are critical safety components. For your i4, I'd suggest going to a different certified BMW service center since you weren't happy with your previous mechanic. The diagnostic tools they have can pinpoint exactly which part of the airbag system is causing the warning. In my case, the whole job took about an hour once they identified the problem. Just make sure whoever works on it is qualified for BMW electric vehicles.
