Error message in the speedometer

Hey everyone! Having a strange issue with my 2014 BMW i3 Hybrid. The dashboard is showing multiple warnings including oil pressure and level measurement errors. The oil level sensor seems to be acting up as I can't get proper readings anymore. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms and got them fixed? Would love to hear about your repair experiences and what the actual problem turned out to be. Trying to understand what I'm dealing with before heading to the workshop.

Hey there! I've had some experience working on hybrid cars and faced something really similar with my 2016 BMW i8 last year. I kept getting those exact same warning lights and sensor errors. After checking the basics myself (I have some basic car maintenance know-how), I took it to my regular workshop. Turned out it was just a faulty cable connection to the oil level sensor, some corrosion had built up and messed with the readings. They cleaned the connection points and replaced a damaged cable. Cost me around 95 Euro and fixed all those dashboard warnings. Could you share more details about when these warnings started appearing? Did you notice any pattern, like after driving for a while or right at startup? This might help pinpoint if you're dealing with the same issue I had. The i3 and i8 share quite a few electrical components, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same problem. Best to get it checked soon though, even if it's just a sensor issue, you'll want accurate oil readings!

Thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful to know about the cable connection issue. My warnings started showing up out of nowhere about a week ago, usually after driving for about 15-20 minutes. I just had my service done at 45744 KM, and everything was fine then. The weird thing is that sometimes the warnings clear up on their own after I restart the car, but they always come back. I'll definitely have someone look at those sensor connections, sounds like it could be exactly what I'm dealing with. I'd much rather it be a simple cable fix than something more serious with the oil system itself!

Hey again! Yeah, what you're describing with those intermittent warnings that clear up after restarting sounds exactly like what I experienced with my i8. That on-again-off-again behavior is pretty typical of electrical connection issues. In my case, those unusual warnings after 15-20 minutes of driving were happening because the heat from the engine was affecting the corroded connection, making it act up. When the car cooled down and I restarted it, everything would seem fine until it warmed up again. Since you mentioned you just had service done at 45744 KM, it might be worth checking if any work was done near the sensor area. Sometimes connections can get knocked loose or not fully secured during other maintenance work. That's what actually happened with mine, turned out the connection got a bit loose during a routine service a few months before the problems started. I definitely suggest having it looked at soon, but I wouldn't stress too much. These hybrid BMWs have pretty good fail-safes built in, and if it's anything like my situation, it's more of an annoyance than a serious problem. Keep me posted on what you find out!

Thanks so much for that detailed explanation! You've really put my mind at ease. Now that you mention it, the timing does make sense, the warnings started about two weeks after my service, so maybe something did get knocked loose during the work. I called my mechanic and booked an appointment for tomorrow morning. They said they'll specifically check the sensor connections and any potential corrosion issues. I'll definitely keep the cost in mind, 95 Euro sounds way better than what I was imagining! Really glad I asked here before getting too worried about it. Will let you know what they find, but feeling much more confident it's just an electrical issue rather than something major with the oil system. Thanks again for sharing your experience, it's been super helpful!
