Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! My i3 has 156387 KM on the clock and just had its service last month. I'm getting error code P0456, and it definitely happens more when the engine is cold, especially in the morning. Haven't really tracked the fuel consumption, but it feels like it's drinking more than usual lately. Really interesting about that wiring harness issue you mentioned, that's definitely something I hadn't considered. Did yours also have that slight shudder when you were stopped at lights? That's been driving me crazy lately. I'll get my mechanic to check the wiring connections first before replacing any parts. Thanks for the tip, could save me some serious cash!
Hey again! Yeah, when you mention that shudder at idle, it's really bringing back memories of what I dealt with. That P0456 code is actually different from what I had though, it's typically related to the evaporative emission system (EVAP), which wasn't my issue at all. Looking back at my situation with the wiring harness, I remember my car also used to shudder at lights, but it was more violent than what you're describing. Mine would literally feel like it was going to stall completely. The fact that yours is worse when cold and that you're getting that specific error code makes me think I might've jumped the gun suggesting it was similar to my wiring issue. Actually, have you checked your gas cap? I know it sounds stupid simple, but that P0456 code often points to a small EVAP leak, and a loose or damaged gas cap is frequently the culprit. Back when I first got my i4, I had a similar code pop up, and it turned out I just hadn't tightened the cap properly after filling up! If the gas cap's good, then yeah, definitely get your mechanic to check the EVAP system. Could be a small vacuum leak somewhere. Way different from my wiring drama, but these hybrids can be tricky sometimes. Keep us posted on what you find out!
Thanks for the detailed follow-up! You know what, I just went out to check the gas cap and gave it a good twist, it actually clicked a few more times! Can't believe it might be something that simple. I'll drive it for a few days and see if that helps with the error code. But I'm still a bit worried about that shudder at idle, it's not as violent as what you described with your car, but it's definitely annoying. I've booked it in at the workshop for next week just to be safe. They'll check both the EVAP system and those wiring connections you mentioned earlier. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experiences. It's always helpful to hear from other BMW hybrid owners who've dealt with similar issues. I'll update the forum once I get it sorted out. Thanks again for all the suggestions!
Hey there! I have some experience working on cars, and I dealt with very similar issues on my 2019 BMW i4 Hybrid last year. Those symptoms sound exactly like what I experienced, it was really frustrating, especially during acceleration. Took it to my regular workshop, and after diagnostics, they found it was actually a loose connection in the wiring harness connected to the hybrid system sensors. The fix wasn't too complicated, they had to reconnect and secure the cables properly, and it cost me around 95 Euro total. Since then, my car's been running perfectly smooth. Before jumping to conclusions about the ignition coil, could you tell us: Are you getting any specific error codes? Does it happen more when the car is cold or warm? Have you noticed any changes in fuel consumption? I know these i-series BMWs pretty well, and there could be a few other causes worth checking. Let me know those details, and I might be able to help narrow it down further!
