BMW i3 Frozen Washer Nozzles: Quick Fix Guide

Hi all! Having some trouble with my 2022 BMW i3 Hybrid (59,387 KM). My windshield washer system is acting up, nozzles get frozen in cold weather and seem burned out in general. Error code keeps popping up too. Pretty sure it's the washer heater, but after a bad experience with my previous mechanic, I'm hesitant about where to take it. Has anyone dealt with similar washer system issues on their i3? What was the actual problem and how much did the repair cost? Would really appreciate recommendations on getting this fixed properly. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2019 BMW i8 Hybrid (plug-in) last winter. Initially thought it was just frozen washer fluid, but turned out to be more complex. The washer heater assembly had a faulty connection, the main plug was corroded and had some loose wiring. Got it checked at the garage after the error code kept showing up repeatedly. The tech found that moisture had gotten into the connector, causing intermittent electrical issues. Not a major repair in terms of complexity, but definitely something you want to address soon. The washer heater is an important safety component, especially in cold weather. The repair involved replacing the connector assembly and rewiring the heating element. Would definitely suggest getting it looked at by a certified BMW technician, these newer hybrid systems can be tricky if you don't know what you're dealing with. The error code you're getting is a good indicator that it's an electrical issue rather than just frozen fluid. Hope this helps give you an idea of what you might be dealing with.

Thanks for sharing your experience! That sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with right now. Really helpful to know about the connector issue, makes total sense with the symptoms I'm seeing. Hey, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the repair? Also curious if you've had any other problems with the washer system since getting it fixed?

Hey again! Happy to give you an update! Yep, took my i8 to the mechanic last week and they confirmed it was exactly what I suspected, faulty windshield washer heater due to a dodgy cable connection. Got it all sorted for 95 €, which wasn't too bad considering how finicky these systems can be. Since the repair, it's been working like a charm, no more error codes popping up, and the nozzles are heating properly in cold weather. Definitely worth every penny for the peace of mind, especially during these chilly months. The washer system's been absolutely spot-on, no issues whatsoever. I'd say if you're seeing similar symptoms, it's probably the same problem. Best to get it sorted sooner rather than later, these things can get worse if left unchecked. Trust me, you'll notice the difference straight away once it's fixed! Let me know if you need any other info, always happy to help out a fellow BMW owner!

Thanks so much for the follow-up! Just got back from getting mine fixed yesterday actually. You were right about the connector issue, turns out moisture had gotten in and messed up the wiring. Paid a bit more than you did, around 120 for the repair, but honestly, it was worth it. The mechanic I found was really thorough and explained everything clearly. Took it for a drive this morning and what a difference! The washer system is working perfectly now, no more error codes or frozen nozzles. Such a relief to have it sorted before the weather gets worse. Really glad I didn't put it off any longer. Thanks again for your help and sharing your experience. It really gave me the push I needed to get it checked out properly. Definitely learned my lesson about dealing with these issues promptly!
