Hey, that's exactly what happened to mine! Thanks for sharing this, I just booked it in with a different mechanic and I'll make sure to mention the harness connection issue. By the way, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the repair? Also, has everything been working fine since then, or have you noticed any other climate control quirks?

Hey there! Glad I could help point you in the right direction! After getting mine fixed at the mechanic, everything's been working perfectly, no more foggy windows or climate control drama. The total bill came to 95€, which was mostly for fixing that faulty cable connection and cleaning up the corroded plug. Since you asked, yep, it's been running like a charm for months now. The fog sensor is working exactly as it should, and the whole climate system is behaving itself. No more issues with the AC, mirror heaters, or anything else climate-related in my i8. It was such a relief getting it sorted, especially since these problems can be super annoying during daily drives. Quick tip though, make sure your mechanic thoroughly checks all the connections while they're in there. Mine did a complete inspection of the whole system just to be safe. Money well spent, if you ask me! Hope you get yours sorted just as easily as I did. Let me know how it goes with the new mechanic!

Just got back from the new mechanic and wanted to update you! You were spot on about the connection issue. Turns out my problem was almost identical to yours, corroded pins and a loose harness. The mechanic actually showed me the damaged parts, and wow, they were in pretty bad shape. The repair cost was a bit higher than yours at 120€, but they did a complete system check while they were at it. Took the car for a test drive yesterday and this morning, and I'm happy to report everything's working perfectly now! No more foggy windows, the AC's pumping out cold air like it should, and even the mirror heaters are back in action. Really appreciate your help, saved me from potentially replacing expensive parts unnecessarily. Would've never thought to check the connections if you hadn't mentioned it. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction!

Had a similar issue with my 2018 BMW i8 Hybrid last winter. The symptoms were nearly identical, foggy windows, AC problems, and non-responsive mirror heaters. Turned out the main climate control module had a loose connection harness, and several pins in the main plug were corroded. The control unit wasn't getting proper signals from the temperature and humidity sensors. This was causing the whole system to malfunction. My mechanic had to clean all the connection points and replace the main harness. Wasn't a critical safety issue, but definitely affected comfort and visibility. The repair itself wasn't too complex, but accessing the module behind the dashboard was time-consuming. Worth checking the connections first before replacing any sensors. The fog sensor alone might not be the root cause if multiple climate functions are failing simultaneously.
