Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful. Sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with. Would you mind sharing how much the wiring harness repair set you back? Also curious if you've had any other electrical gremlins pop up since getting it fixed. Always good to know what to watch out for with these complex systems.
Hey again! Happy to report back with some good news. After taking my car to the mechanic last week, it turned out to be a much simpler fix than I originally thought. Instead of needing the entire wiring harness replaced like I mentioned before, it was just a bad clutch pedal switch with a loose cable connection. Only cost me 95€ to fix, which was a huge relief compared to what I was expecting! The mechanic found that the cable or plug connection to the switch was defective, causing all those annoying symptoms. Since getting it sorted, everything's working perfectly, cruise control's back to normal, gear display is working, and the engine won't start unless the clutch is engaged, just as it should. No other electrical issues have popped up since the repair, which is great news. The whole thing was way less complicated than my initial experience suggested. Sometimes it's the simple fixes that do the trick! Let me know if you need any other info about the repair.
Thanks for the update! I actually went ahead and got mine fixed too. You won't believe it, but my experience was totally different from yours. The mechanic found multiple issues, a completely fried wiring harness and a damaged clutch sensor. Ended up being a bigger job than expected, took them nearly a full day to sort everything out. The final bill was pretty steep, about three times what you paid, but at least everything's working perfectly now. The cruise control's smooth, gear display is crystal clear, and the clutch is doing its job properly. The mechanic also found and fixed some corrosion issues while they were in there, so hopefully that'll prevent future problems. Definitely learned my lesson about not waiting too long to get these things checked out. Really appreciate you sharing your experience, it gave me the push I needed to get it sorted. Even though my repair was more extensive than yours, I'm just glad to have my car running properly again. Thanks for all your help!
Hey there! I had nearly identical issues with my 2016 BMW 7 Series Hybrid last year. The symptoms you're describing match exactly what I experienced, non-responsive cruise control, engine starting without clutch engagement, and a blank gear indicator. Initially thought it was the clutch sensor, but turned out it was a faulty wiring harness connection at the pedal assembly. The connector had corroded and wasn't making proper contact. The mechanic had to replace the entire wiring harness for that section. It wasn't a major repair in terms of complexity, but leaving it unfixed could've led to more serious electrical issues down the line. The repair took about 3 hours at the shop. My advice is to get it checked soon, these symptoms usually don't resolve themselves and could potentially affect other systems. Make sure they properly test all the connections before replacing parts. Would recommend having the diagnostic codes properly scanned first to confirm. Hope this helps with your decision. Good luck with the repair!
