BMW Diesel Central Locking Failure, Common Fix Inside

Vehicle cannot be unlocked or locked

|

Fault stored

Hi all! I'm having trouble with my 2016 BMW 2 diesel. The central locking system has completely stopped working, can't lock or unlock any doors, and there's an error code stored in the system. Has anyone dealt with this issue before? Particularly interested in hearing about repair solutions that worked for you and what the actual problem turned out to be. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey there! I have some experience working on cars and had a similar issue with my 2014 BMW 3 Series diesel last year. The symptoms were exactly the same, complete central locking failure. After taking it to my trusted workshop, they found it was just a faulty wiring connection to the central locking control unit. The fix wasn't too complicated, they had to repair the cable connection, and it cost me 95 Euro. Been working perfectly since then. Before I share more details, what error code are you getting? Also, have you noticed any other electrical issues like window controls or interior lights acting up? That would help pinpoint if we're dealing with the same problem. I also previously owned a BMW 4 Series, and these electronic gremlins can sometimes be tricky to diagnose. Let me know the additional info, and I might be able to help further!

Thanks for sharing your experience! My car has been properly maintained with the latest service done just last month at 37518 KM. The error code I'm getting is B800F45. Haven't noticed any issues with the windows or interior lights, everything else seems to work fine. It's just the central locking that's giving me trouble. The issue started suddenly yesterday without any warning signs. Did your repair shop mention anything about the wiring being a common problem in these models? I'm hoping it's something similarly straightforward and not too expensive to fix.

Hey again! Thanks for providing those details. Yeah, my repair experience with the 2014 3 Series sounds pretty similar to what you're dealing with. My issue also came out of nowhere, was working fine one day, completely dead the next. And just like yours, everything else was working perfectly. That error code you mentioned (B800F45) is actually the exact same one I got! When I took it to the workshop, they explained that these wiring issues are fairly common in BMWs from around that period. Something about the wire insulation being prone to wear in certain spots near the door hinges. In my case, the mechanic showed me where the wire had partially separated from the connector, it wasn't even visible without taking things apart. Since your symptoms are identical and you've got the same error code, I'd bet good money you're dealing with the same issue. Quick tip though, might be worth checking your key fob battery just to rule that out before heading to the shop. I wasted time trying that first, but given your error code, I think you're definitely looking at the same wiring problem I had. Let me know how it goes, would be interesting to hear if it turns out to be the same fix! These BMWs are great cars but they do have their quirks with the electronics sometimes.

Thanks so much for all this detailed information! Really helpful to know that your car had exactly the same error code and symptoms. I just checked the key fob battery to be sure, but as you suspected, that wasn't the issue. I've got an appointment booked with my mechanic for tomorrow morning. I feel much more confident going in now, knowing what to expect and that it's likely just a wiring issue. It's quite reassuring to hear that these problems are somewhat common in BMWs from our era and that the fix isn't too complex or expensive. Will definitely update you once it's sorted, really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and knowledge about this!

Let our mechanics help you!
