BMW ASC & ABS Issues: Help with Acceleration Jerking

Fault stored

Jerking on acceleration

Hi everyone! My 2018 BMW 2 diesel has multiple issues I need help with. The ASC and ABS systems are completely non-functional, and I'm experiencing jerking during acceleration. The car's error memory shows some faults too. I noticed an ASC system service warning, but I'm not sure if that's the root cause. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? Would appreciate hearing about repair experiences and what exactly was needed to fix it. Looking for workshop solutions that worked for you. Thanks in advance.

Hey there! Got some experience with cars, not an expert but I've dealt with similar issues. Had this exact problem on my 2016 BMW 1 Series diesel last year. Those symptoms sound really familiar, the ASC/ABS warnings and that jerky acceleration were driving me nuts on my car too. Turned out the ASC relay was faulty in my case. Got it fixed at my regular workshop, cost me about 90 Euro including labor. Pretty straightforward fix once they identified the problem. The symptoms disappeared completely after that. Before I share more details about my experience, could you tell me if you've had any other warning lights come up? Also, what's the exact engine variant in your 2? Mine was the 118d, and these issues can vary between models. Hoping this helps point you in the right direction!

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! My car has 149,255 KM on the clock and these issues started right after my last service. Your situation does sound similar to mine. I'm getting the exact same symptoms with the jerky acceleration and warning lights. No other warning lights have popped up besides the ASC and ABS ones. Mine's the 218d variant, so pretty close to your 118d. Really helpful to know about the ASC relay fix, that definitely gives me a starting point. Did your mechanic try anything else before figuring out it was the relay? I'm wondering if I should get that checked first or if there might be other things to look at.

Hey again! Thanks for the extra details about your 218d. That's really interesting that these issues started right after your service, that could be a clue right there. When I had my 118d fixed, my mechanic actually did try a couple of things before zeroing in on the relay. First, they did a full diagnostic scan which showed similar error codes to what you're probably seeing. They initially thought it might be a wheel speed sensor because that's pretty common, but all sensors checked out fine. They also looked at the ABS module connections because sometimes they can get corroded or loose, again, all good there. The relay was actually the last thing they checked, which turned out to be the jackpot. Looking back, I wish we'd checked it first, would've saved some diagnostic time! Since your problems started after a service, I'd definitely mention that to your mechanic. Could be that something got disconnected or disturbed during the service. Honestly, given how similar your symptoms are to what I experienced, I'd bet money on it being that ASC relay. Quick question, have you noticed if the problem gets worse when the engine's warm? Mine definitely did, which was another clue pointing to the relay issue.

Thanks for all that detail, it's super helpful! Actually yes, now that you mention it, the problems do seem worse when the engine's warm. I didn't connect those dots before, but it definitely acts up more after I've been driving for a while. That's really good to know about the diagnostic process your mechanic went through. I'll make sure to mention both the timing with the service and the ASC relay possibility when I take it in. You've probably saved me some time and money there! I'll also tell them about the warm engine correlation. I'll get it booked in this week and have them check the relay first. Really appreciate you sharing your experience, it's given me a much clearer idea of what I'm dealing with. I'll update the thread once I get it sorted in case anyone else runs into similar issues. Thanks again for all your help!
