BMW 8 Series Keyless Entry Failure: Fix Experience Needed

Key fob issues

Hey everyone! I'm having trouble with my 2019 BMW 8 series. The keyless entry suddenly stopped working, and I'm getting error messages about open-circuit current and battery issues. I think it might be related to the door handle electronics. Has anyone dealt with similar problems? What was the actual cause and how did your workshop fix it? Looking for real experiences before heading to the service center.

Hey there! I actually had a pretty similar issue with my 2021 BMW 4 Series (and previously owned a 3 Series). Got some experience with BMWs, though I wouldn't call myself an expert. Had the exact same symptoms, keyless entry suddenly died and got those annoying error messages. Turned out to be a faulty wiring connection in the door handle sensor. My mechanic found that some cables had worked loose over time. The repair was pretty straightforward, they fixed the connection and recalibrated the system. Cost me 95 Euro and it's been working perfectly since. Could you share what error codes you're getting? Also, did you notice any other electrical issues before this started happening? Knowing these details would help figure out if you're dealing with the same problem I had.

Thanks for sharing your experience! Mine's been perfectly maintained (last service was at 66954 KM) and this is the first electrical issue I've run into. The main error code I'm getting is "CC-ID 236," along with a battery warning light. Haven't noticed any other electrical issues before this started happening last week. Good to hear your fix wasn't too complex, hoping mine turns out to be just a loose connection too. Did you notice if yours was temperature sensitive? Mine seems to act up more in the early morning.

Hey again! Yeah, I remember dealing with this on my 4 Series. Actually, now that you mention the temperature sensitivity and that error code, it does ring a bell. Mine also acted up more in the mornings, especially when it was cooler. The CC-ID 236 is exactly what I got too, and yeah, that battery warning light is super annoying. What's interesting is that after my repair, I learned that temperature sensitivity is often a telltale sign of a wiring issue rather than a full sensor failure. Makes sense since wire connections can expand and contract with temperature changes. In my case, even though the car was well-maintained (I was at around 58000 KM when it happened), these things can just occur from normal use. The vibrations from driving can gradually loosen connections over time. One thing I didn't mention in my first reply, before taking it to the shop, I actually tried disconnecting the battery for about 15 minutes to reset the system. Didn't solve the problem but might be worth trying while you wait for your appointment. Let me know how it goes at the shop. I'm curious if it turns out to be the same issue as mine!

Thanks so much for all this detailed info! That's super helpful about the temperature sensitivity being linked to wiring issues, makes total sense. I'll definitely try that battery disconnect trick you mentioned before heading to the shop. The car's booked in for next week, and I'm feeling a lot more confident now that I know what to expect. Really appreciate you taking the time to walk me through your experience, especially since you dealt with the exact same error code. It's reassuring to know it's likely just a wiring issue and not something more serious. I'll let you know what they find once it's been checked out, might help other BMW owners who run into the same problem!

Let our mechanics help you!
