Massage seat without function

Hey again! Happy to report that since getting it fixed, the massage seat has been working perfectly, no more unusual activations or getting stuck! The total cost was 95 € for fixing the faulty cable connection, which honestly wasn't as bad as I expected. The mechanic explained that these comfort features often develop connection issues over time due to all the seat movement and adjustments we make. Been about 8 months now since the repair and haven't had a single problem with any of the seat functions. All switches and controls are working just as they should. Looking back, I was probably making it a bigger deal in my head than it actually was. Just needed someone who knew what they were doing with BMW's electrical systems. Hope this helps give you an idea of what you're looking at cost-wise!
Thanks so much for all the details! Just got back from the mechanic today actually. You were spot on, it was a wiring issue. The mechanic found corroded connections in the seat module, pretty similar to what you described. Cost me a bit more than yours at 150€ since they had to replace some additional connectors, but I'm just glad it's fixed. The massage function is working perfectly now, no more surprise massages while driving! The mechanic also checked the other seat functions while they were at it, which was good peace of mind. Really appreciate you sharing your experience, helped me feel more confident about getting it sorted instead of just living with the problem. Guess these luxury features can be a bit finicky as the cars get older, but at least it wasn't anything major. Thanks again for the help!
Had the exact same problem with my 2007 BMW 5 Series last year. The massage function would out of nowhere activate and get stuck. After checking at the garage, turned out the connection cables behind the seat control module were loose and corroded. The technician had to replace the entire connection harness and reseat the control module. Not a major mechanical issue, but definitely annoying when it happens. The repair itself wasn't complicated, took about 2 hours of labor. The parts were readily available since it's a common problem with these luxury features as the cars age. Just make sure whoever works on it knows BMW electrical systems well. These comfort functions can be tricky to diagnose if the technician isn't familiar with the brand-specific modules.
