BMW 7 Series Hybrid Oil Pressure Issues, Help Needed

Oil light on

|

Weird engine noise

Hi all, my 2019 BMW 7 Series Hybrid has been giving me serious trouble lately. The oil pressure warning light came on, followed by concerning engine noises. The diagnostic check showed engine oil pressure control faults. I suspect low oil pressure might be the culprit. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms on their 7 Series? Curious to know what repairs were needed and how your service center resolved it. Any insights would be appreciated.

Hey there! I have some experience with cars and went through something very similar with my 2017 BMW 5 Series Hybrid (and previously owned a 3 Series too). The symptoms you're describing are exactly what I faced. Those engine noises really got me worried! Turned out my oil pump was failing, causing the pressure issues. Had to get it replaced at my local BMW specialist shop. The whole thing, including parts and labor, set me back about 755 Euro. They got it done in about two days, and it's been running perfectly since then. Before I can offer more specific advice, could you share: How many miles/kilometers are on your car? Are you getting any specific error codes? Have you noticed any oil leaks or unusual oil consumption? Feel free to share these details, it'll help me better understand if you're dealing with the same issue I had.

Thanks for sharing your experience! My car has 148244 KM on the clock, and I just did a diagnostic scan which showed the error code 'Oil Pressure Control Circuit Malfunction'. Haven't noticed any visible oil leaks under the car, but it does seem to be using a bit more oil between services lately. Oil level is good though, I check it regularly. Good to hear your pump replacement fixed the issue, definitely gives me hope it might be something similar. Had it serviced last month but these issues started happening right after. Really appreciate the detailed breakdown of your repair costs and timeline. Gonna get it checked at the dealership next week, hopefully it's just the pump like in your case and nothing more serious.

Hey again! Thanks for those details, this sounds even more similar to what I experienced with my 5 Series. After my successful pump replacement, I've learned a lot about these issues. That error code you're getting is exactly the same one I had, and the increased oil consumption pattern matches too. It's pretty typical for these engines, especially around that mileage. The timing of your issues starting right after the service is interesting, sometimes when they drain and refill the oil, it can expose underlying pump weakness that wasn't noticeable before. Just keep in mind, my repair bill ended up being reasonable because we caught it early. When I first noticed the warning light and sounds, I immediately reduced my driving and kept engine RPMs low until I could get it to the shop. That probably saved me from more extensive damage. Quick tip from my experience: when you take it to the dealership, ask them to also check the oil pressure sensor and the pickup tube screen. Sometimes debris can collect there and contribute to the problem. I wish I'd known to ask about this during my first visit, could have saved me a second trip. Let me know how it goes at the dealership. Fingers crossed it's just the pump like mine was!

Thanks so much for the follow-up and those extra tips! I'm feeling much more confident now knowing that your situation was so similar. I'll definitely take your advice about driving carefully until I get it to the shop, been babying it already, keeping the revs low just to be safe. Smart thinking about checking the sensor and pickup tube screen too, I'll make sure to mention that to the dealership. It's really helpful to know what to expect cost-wise as well. I've been worried about potential repair costs, but your experience gives me a good ballpark figure to work with. I'll update you next week after the dealership checks it out. Really appreciate all your detailed advice and sharing your experience, it's made this whole situation feel much less stressful!
