BMW 7 Series Emergency Call System Battery Failure Fix

Emergency system without function

Hi everyone! Having some concerns with my 2018 BMW 7 Series Hybrid (96K km). The emergency call system seems to be acting up, getting error codes and the emergency call function has limited operation time. Pretty sure it's the emergency call battery, but had a sketchy experience at my last mechanic visit. Has anyone dealt with this issue? Looking for recommendations on the repair and maybe approximate costs before heading to the shop. Thanks!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2015 BMW 5 Series Hybrid last year. The emergency call battery gave out around 90K km, it's actually pretty common with these systems. When I brought it in, the diagnostic confirmed the emergency backup battery was completely discharged. It's a separate battery from the main one, specifically for the emergency call system. The techs had to replace the entire emergency call control module since the battery isn't sold separately. From my experience, it's not a critical safety issue for driving, but it does need fixing since it's part of the car's emergency response system. The repair wasn't complicated, took about 2-3 hours. They also had to reprogram the module to sync with the car's systems. Just make sure you go to someone who knows BMW hybrids well. The module needs proper coding after installation, or you'll keep getting those error messages. Hope this helps with your decision.

Hey, really helpful info about the emergency call module! I actually went through this exact same thing with my 7. It's good to know I wasn't the only one dealing with this headache. Mind sharing how much you ended up paying for the fix? Also, wondering if you've had any other issues pop up with the system since getting it repaired? Just want to make sure I know what I might be getting into.

Hey again! Happy to follow up about the emergency call system repair. After I got it fixed at the shop, it cost me 110 € total, parts and labor included. That was actually less than I expected given it's a BMW repair! The best news is that since getting it fixed, the system has been working perfectly, no more error messages or problems at all. It was definitely worth getting it sorted out properly. The mechanic explained they had to do a complete discharge and recharge cycle on the new emergency battery to make sure it was properly calibrated, which I think made a difference. Just to put your mind at ease, it's been over a year now since the repair, and I haven't had a single issue with the emergency call system. The error messages completely disappeared and everything's been running smoothly. Honestly, it was one of those "fix it and forget it" type repairs. Let me know if you need any other details about the repair. I know these BMW quirks can be frustrating, but once they're properly sorted, they usually stay fixed!

Thanks for all that detail about your repair experience! I actually just got back from the mechanic yesterday and wanted to share my experience. The funny thing is, it turned out to be a bit different from what I expected. My issue wasn't just the emergency call battery, they found some loose wiring connections in the module that were causing those error messages. The mechanic showed me the corroded bits and everything. Only spent about 75 bucks for the fix since it didn't need a full replacement. They cleaned up the connections, secured everything properly, and ran a full system test. Been driving for a day now and no more error messages popping up. Such a relief it wasn't as expensive as I feared! Guess sometimes it pays to be nervous about repairs, made me do my homework and find a decent mechanic who actually checked things thoroughly instead of just swapping parts. Really appreciate everyone's input on this. It definitely helped me ask the right questions when I went in.

Let our mechanics help you!
