Thanks so much for sharing your experience! I'm glad I'm not the only one who's dealt with this. I want to get this fixed asap since summer is coming up. Just curious, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the whole repair? Also, has everything been working fine since then, or have you had any other AC problems?
Hey again! Just wanted to follow up, since I last posted, I actually got this exact issue fixed! The mechanic confirmed it was indeed the rear ventilation flap fault, just like I suspected. They found a faulty cable connection that needed sorting out. Total bill came to 95€, which honestly wasn't as bad as I was expecting given all the dashboard work they had to do. Really happy to report that my AC has been working perfectly since the repair. No more dead control panel, and the cooling is back to full strength. Such a relief, especially since it's been getting warmer lately! It's been about three months now, and I haven't had a single problem with the system. If you're wondering whether to go ahead with the repair, I'd definitely say do it. These BMW climate control systems are pretty solid once they're properly fixed. The key is just making sure all those connections are secure and properly seated. Good luck with yours, hope you get it sorted just as smoothly as I did!
Thanks a lot for the update! I actually just got mine fixed yesterday and wanted to share my experience too. The mechanic I found was really thorough, showed me exactly what was wrong and explained everything clearly. The issue was pretty much identical to what you described. Funny enough, my repair bill was about the same range too. They had to take apart quite a bit of the dashboard, which made me nervous at first, but they knew exactly what they were doing. The actual fix only took about two hours. The AC is now blasting cold air like it's brand new, and all the controls are working perfectly. Really glad I didn't put this off any longer. For anyone else reading this who might have similar issues, don't wait around hoping it'll fix itself. Better to get it sorted before it potentially causes bigger problems. Thanks again for all your help and advice. It definitely made me feel more confident about getting this fixed!
Hey there! I had a really similar issue with my 2003 BMW 5 Series 530d last summer. The symptoms were almost identical, AC stopped cooling and control panel went dead. Turned out the ventilation flap actuator cable had come loose, and there was also a damaged connector at the control module. The mechanic showed me where the cable had disconnected, it's a known weak point in these models. They had to replace the connector and reattach the cable properly. While not a major mechanical issue, it definitely needed professional handling because of all the dashboard disassembly required to access the components. My advice would be to get it checked soon. These symptoms usually don't fix themselves and can lead to bigger problems if the flap stays stuck in one position for too long. The fix itself wasn't too complex, but the labor was the main factor due to all the dismantling needed. Best of luck with yours, these generation BMWs are great cars when everything's working right.
