BMW 7 Oil Pressure Warning: Need Help Diagnosing Issue

Thanks for the response! My car has 24498 KM and actually had its last service about 8 months ago. Since you asked, I'm not hearing any weird noises, but the warnings tend to pop up more when the engine is warm, usually after driving for about 15-20 minutes. It's strange because everything was fine right after the service. I'm starting to worry it might be something more serious than just an oil issue. Did your mechanic mention anything about sensor problems when you had similar symptoms? Just trying to figure out if I should prepare for a bigger repair bill.

Hey again! Looking at what you're describing, it's really interesting because it's quite different from what I initially thought. When my BMW had those warnings, they showed up pretty much right away when starting the engine. The fact that yours only appears after warm-up makes me think it might not be just an oil contamination issue like I had. You know what? I remembered something my mechanic mentioned during my repair, these BMWs can sometimes have faulty oil pressure sensors that give false readings when they get hot. On my previous 3 series, I actually dealt with that exact same problem, warnings coming on after the engine warmed up, even though the oil level and quality were perfectly fine. Since your car was recently serviced and has relatively low mileage, I'd bet money it's more likely a sensor issue than actual oil problems. When my sensor went bad, the repair was around 300 Euro including labor. Way better than an engine rebuild, right? Quick tip though, even if you think it's just a sensor, don't ignore it. I'd suggest getting it checked out soon. Better safe than sorry when it comes to oil pressure warnings. Let me know what you find out, I'm really curious if it turns out to be the same problem I had!

Thanks so much for the detailed response! I feel a lot better knowing it might just be a sensor issue. You're absolutely right about not ignoring it, I've already called my mechanic and scheduled an appointment for next week. The 300 euro estimate for the sensor repair sounds much more manageable than what I was imagining! It's really helpful to hear from someone who's dealt with similar BMW issues. I was getting worried about potential engine damage, but your experience with the sensor problems in both your cars makes a lot of sense, especially since my oil was recently changed and everything else seems to be running fine. I'll definitely update you once I get it checked out. Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience, it's helped calm my nerves about this whole situation!

Hey there! I had a somewhat similar issue with my 2006 BMW 5 series (also owned a 3 series before). I have some experience working on cars, mainly basic maintenance stuff. When those warning lights showed up on my car, it turned out I had gone way past the recommended service interval. My trusted mechanic found that the old oil had started breaking down, which triggered those warnings. The fix was pretty straightforward, needed an oil change, new filter, and they did a thorough system check. Cost me around 165 Euro, but it was worth every penny to prevent bigger issues. Before I can give more specific advice, could you share: How many miles/km since your last oil change? Are you noticing any unusual engine noises? Does the problem happen more when the engine is cold or warm? Let me know these details and I can share more from my experience!
