BMW 7 Hybrid: Multiple System Failures & Jerky Acceleration

Jerking on acceleration

|

Fault stored

Hi all! Need help with my 2022 BMW 7 Hybrid. Having multiple system failures, ASC and ABS not working, plus noticeable jerking during acceleration. Getting an ASC service warning. Has anyone encountered similar issues with their 7 series? What did your workshop diagnose and how was it resolved? Looking for actual repair experiences to understand what I might be dealing with. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I've got some experience working on cars, though I'm not a pro mechanic. Had a similar issue with my 2020 BMW 5 Series Hybrid last year (I switched from a 3 Series). The symptoms you're describing sound exactly like what I dealt with, multiple warnings and that annoying jerking during acceleration. Turned out it was a faulty ASC relay in my case. Got it fixed at my regular workshop, cost me around 90 Euro for the whole thing, parts and labor included. Pretty straightforward fix once they identified the problem. Before I can help more specifically, could you share: How many miles/kilometers on your car? When did these symptoms first appear? Any recent work done on the car? This info would help me figure out if you're dealing with the same issue I had. Let me know!

Thanks for sharing your experience! My 7 series has just 7077 KM since I got it, and just had its latest service done. The symptoms started showing up about a week ago, completely out of the blue. No other work has been done on the car besides regular maintenance. Really hoping it's just a relay issue like in your case, that sounds way better than what I was imagining! Did your car also show multiple system failures at once? And was the jerking particularly noticeable when accelerating from a stop?

Hey again! Thanks for the additional info about your 7 Series. Yeah, looking at your numbers and symptoms, it's definitely ringing some bells with what I experienced. My car was actually fairly new too when it happened, around 12,000 KM, so pretty similar situation. And yep, I had exactly those multiple system failures all at once, ASC, ABS, the whole show. The jerking from a stop was particularly bad in my case too, especially when trying to accelerate gently. It's like the car couldn't decide if it wanted to go or not, right? But here's something interesting, while my issue was the relay, given that your car is even newer than mine was and just had service, I'm actually wondering if it might be a software glitch. These new hybrids are pretty complex with all their systems talking to each other. Have you tried the old "turn it off and on again" trick? Like, fully power down the car for about 10 minutes before starting it up again? If that doesn't help, definitely get it checked out soon. These symptoms aren't something you want to ignore, especially in a newer car like yours. While my relay fix was quick and cheap, it's always better to catch these things early before they can cause any bigger issues. Let me know what you find out, I'm curious if it turns out to be the same problem I had!

Thanks so much for all this detailed info! You know what, I actually haven't tried the full power-down reset yet, that's a great suggestion. I'll definitely give that a shot before heading to the workshop. The way you described the jerking is spot-on, it's exactly that feeling of the car being indecisive about moving forward. It's really reassuring to hear that you had similar issues with your car at a similar mileage and got it sorted without any major drama. I was honestly starting to worry this might be some massive hybrid system failure, so hearing about your relay fix is giving me hope! I'll try the reset first, and if that doesn't work, I'll get it checked out at the workshop right away. Will let you know how it turns out if we cross paths here again. Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience, it's been super helpful!
