BMW 7 Hybrid Wiper System Failure, Help Needed

Wipers don't work properly

|

Fault stored

Hey all BMW owners! My 2023 BMW 7 Hybrid has developed a wiper issue, both manual and auto functions are completely dead. Got an error code stored and I suspect it might be the wiper relay. Has anyone dealt with something similar? Would love to hear about your repair experience and what the actual problem turned out to be. Looking for some insights before heading to the workshop. Thanks in advance!

Hi there! I've dealt with something very similar on my 2021 BMW 5 Series Hybrid (also own an i4). I'd say I have some experience working with cars and doing basic maintenance. Had the exact same symptoms, wipers completely dead, both auto and manual. Took it to my regular workshop last month and turns out it was just a faulty connection in the wiper control module wiring. The mechanic had to replace some corroded cables and check all the connections. Total bill came to 95 Euro and it's been working perfectly since then. Before you head to the shop, could you share what error code you're getting? Also, when did you first notice the problem, and did it happen suddenly or gradually? This might help pinpoint if we're dealing with the same issue.

Thanks for sharing your experience! Looks like my symptoms match yours. I first noticed it last week during a drizzle, totally sudden failure, no warning signs. Got error code 927642 stored. My car has 129156 KM on the clock and just had its service two weeks ago, though they didn't touch anything related to the wipers. Was worried it might be something major, but hearing about your wiring issue gives me hope it's not too serious. Will definitely get those connection points checked out first before replacing any parts. Did your mechanic mention how common this issue is with newer BMWs?

Hey again! Yeah, after reading your details, I'm even more convinced we had the same issue. That's actually the exact error code I got too with my 5 Series. And funny enough, mine also died right after a routine service, talk about timing! When I asked my mechanic about it, he mentioned it's becoming a pretty common problem in newer BMWs, especially the hybrid models. Something about the wiring insulation being a bit sensitive to moisture over time. He showed me the corroded bits he found in my car, it was mostly around the connection points where the wiring harness meets the control module. One thing I forgot to mention in my first reply, before they found the wiring issue, they also suspected the relay at first (like you did). But testing showed the relay was perfectly fine. Would've been a more expensive fix if it had been the relay, so I got lucky there! Since you're having the identical symptoms and error code, I'd put money on it being the same wiring problem. Just make sure whoever looks at it checks those connection points thoroughly. Mine's been running like a charm for the past month since the fix. Let me know how it turns out, curious to see if we really had the same gremlin in our cars!

Thanks so much for all this detailed info! It's honestly such a relief to hear about your experience, especially since we got the same error code. Really appreciate you mentioning that about the relay too, I was about to order one online but I'll hold off now. Good to know about this being a common issue with the hybrids. Definitely makes sense about the moisture sensitivity, especially since mine died during that drizzle. I've booked it in at the workshop for tomorrow morning. Will make sure to ask them to check all those connection points you mentioned, particularly around the control module area. The estimate they gave me on the phone was actually pretty close to what you paid, which is way better than what I was expecting! I'll definitely update this thread once it's fixed. Really helpful to have found someone who's been through the exact same thing. Fingers crossed it's just those pesky wiring connections and nothing more serious!

Let our mechanics help you!
