BMW 6 Series Brake System Issues, Multiple Problems

Error message in the speedometer

Hi everyone! Having trouble with my 2018 BMW 6 series. The brake system's acting up with multiple issues, error messages on the dash, weak braking performance, and the hydraulic pump makes noise and runs more often than usual. The error memory shows some fault codes too. I suspect it might be the brake booster pressure sensor, but I'd like to hear from others who've dealt with similar symptoms. What was the actual problem in your case, and how did your mechanic resolve it? Any insights would be really helpful! Thanks in advance

Hi there! I have some experience working on cars and faced something very similar with my 2016 BMW 5 series. The symptoms were almost identical to what you're describing. After taking it to my trusted workshop, it turned out the brake system wasn't bled properly during a previous service. The technician had to completely re-bleed the brake system and recalibrate the sensors. Cost me around 90 Euro, but it fixed all those issues, the warning lights disappeared, braking performance returned to normal, and that annoying pump noise stopped. Could be something similar in your case, though it's best to get it properly diagnosed. Can you share when was the last time you had any brake work done? Also, what specific error codes are you getting? This would help narrow down the problem. Just a heads up, don't wait too long to get this checked out since it's brake-related. Safety first!

Hey! Thanks for sharing your experience. I actually had my last service about 3 months ago at 39164 KM, and they didn't mention any brake issues then. But what you're saying about the brake bleeding makes a lot of sense, I did have some brake work done right before these symptoms started showing up. The main error code I'm getting is 5DA2, along with a couple others. I've already booked an appointment with my mechanic for next week, but your experience gives me hope it might be something relatively straightforward like improper bleeding rather than a major component failure. Really appreciate the help! Sure makes me feel better knowing someone else had similar issues that were resolved without too much hassle.

Hey again! Yeah, that error code 5DA2 sounds really familiar, that's exactly what I saw on my 5 series when I had those brake issues. After hearing that you had recent brake work done, I'm even more convinced it's probably the same problem I had with the bleeding. Just to add to my previous experience, after they fixed the bleeding issue on my car, I actually had the problem come back once more about a month later. Turned out there was a tiny air bubble they missed the first time. The second bleeding did the trick though, and it's been running perfectly for over a year now. Make sure to tell your mechanic about the recent brake work when you go in next week. Could save them some diagnostic time since they'll know where to look first. And hey, if it does turn out to be just a bleeding issue like mine was, you might even save some money compared to replacing that brake booster pressure sensor you were worried about. Let us know how it goes next week! Always good to know the outcome for future reference.

Thanks for the additional info about that second bleeding you needed! I'll definitely mention both your experiences to my mechanic, that bit about the lingering air bubble is especially helpful. The more I think about it, the timing of these issues starting right after that brake work really does point to something like this. It's such a relief knowing there's a good chance it's just a bleeding issue. I was really worried about having to replace expensive components! I'll make sure to update this thread after my appointment next week so others can benefit if they run into similar problems. Really appreciate all the detailed help and follow-up, you've definitely helped calm my nerves about this whole situation!

Let our mechanics help you!
