BMW 6 Diesel Stalling: Bad Fuel Mix or Injector Failure?

Jerking on acceleration

Loss of engine power

Need advice: BMW 6 (2014) diesel giving me headaches! My BMW 6 diesel (2014, 129k km) is acting up and I've lost trust in my mechanic after a recent bad experience. The car's running really rough, losing power, and stalling at idle. Check engine light is on and it failed emissions. Everything points to fuel mixture issues, but I'd rather hear from others before going back to a shop. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? What was the actual problem and how much did the repair cost? Any recommendations for dealing with this?

Hey there! I had very similar issues with my BMW 5 series (2011) diesel last year. The symptoms you're describing match exactly what I experienced, rough running, power loss, and stalling. After scanning, it turned out to be a faulty fuel injector. Had mine fixed at the garage and they found that two injectors were defective and badly clogged. They had to remove all injectors, test them, and replace the faulty ones. They also cleaned the entire fuel system while they were at it. It was definitely a serious repair job, took them about two days to complete everything properly. Since the fix, my car's been running like new, smooth idle, proper power delivery, and no more check engine light. Given your symptoms and mileage, I'd bet you're dealing with the same issue. Don't wait too long on this one, bad injectors can cause more damage if left unchecked. Just make sure whoever works on it uses genuine parts and has experience with BMW diesel engines. These injectors are quite sensitive and need proper calibration after installation.

Thanks for sharing your experience! Really helpful as it does sound exactly like my issue. The symptoms match up perfectly with what you described. I'm actually relieved to hear it was "just" the injectors in your case, was worried it might be something even more serious. Quick question though, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the whole job? Also, has everything been running smoothly since the repair, or have you noticed any other issues popping up?

Hey again! Just wanted to update you after seeing your questions. Yes, everything's been running perfectly since getting it fixed. The cost ended up being 515 € to replace the faulty injector, and they found it was actually causing that mixture preparation error I mentioned. The shop diagnosed and fixed it right away, money well spent if you ask me! Haven't had a single problem since then. The car's running super smooth, no more stalling, and power delivery is back to normal. The check engine light is gone too, which is such a relief. It's been about a year now since the repair, and honestly, it feels like I'm driving a different car compared to when it was acting up. No other issues have cropped up either, so I'm pretty confident they got to the root of the problem. Just one tip, make sure whoever works on yours knows their way around BMW diesels. The injector replacement needs proper calibration afterward, but once it's done right, you should be good to go! Let me know if you need any other info about what to expect during the repair.

Thanks so much for all the details! I actually just got back from a reputable mechanic who specializes in BMW diesels. You were spot on, it was indeed the injectors! Had two bad ones that needed replacement. The total cost came to a bit more than what you paid since I needed two injectors, but the difference in how the car runs now is incredible. No more rough idle, power's back to normal, and that annoying check engine light is finally off. They did the full calibration too, just like you mentioned. Really glad I asked here before going to my old mechanic. Having someone who actually knows these engines made such a difference, they diagnosed it quickly and got everything sorted in just a couple of days. The whole experience was way better than my previous repair disasters. Thanks again for sharing your story, it really helped me make the right decision on this one!
