Thanks for sharing your experience! My 5 Series is at 65306 KM since my latest service. Actually, there's absolutely no sound when I press the washer switch, just dead silence. I've double-checked the fluid level by physically opening the cap, and it's definitely well above halfway. Kinda frustrating since everything was working perfectly fine last week. Wondering if this could be a pump failure rather than just a sensor issue since there's zero response from the system.
Hey again! After reading about your symptoms, I'm starting to think your issue might be different from what I experienced with my 3 Series. When mine acted up, I could still hear a faint humming from the pump even though no fluid came out. The complete silence you're describing sounds more serious than just a sensor problem. In fact, your symptoms remind me of when my pump actually failed completely about a year after the sensor incident I mentioned earlier. It was exactly the same, total silence when pressing the switch. Turned out the pump motor had burned out. The repair was more expensive than my previous sensor fix, around 180 Euro including parts and labor. Given that you're getting zero response and your fluid level is good, I'd bet money you're dealing with either a failed pump or possibly an electrical issue. Could be a blown fuse or faulty wiring, but considering how these BMWs are built, my money's on the pump itself. Would definitely recommend getting it checked out soon. These systems are pretty important for safe driving, especially during bad weather. Let us know what you find out when you get it looked at!
Thanks so much for the detailed response! Your experience with the pump failure sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with. The complete silence is definitely concerning, and I'm pretty convinced now that it's more than just a sensor issue. You're right about getting it checked soon, I've actually just booked an appointment for tomorrow morning at the workshop. Really appreciate you sharing both your experiences, the sensor problem and the pump failure. It's given me a much better idea of what to expect. I'll definitely come back and update once I know what the actual problem is. Fingers crossed it's just a fuse, but I'm prepared for the possibility of a pump replacement after what you've shared. Thanks again for all the help!
Hey there! I have some experience with car maintenance, and I actually faced a similar issue with my 2018 BMW 3 Series Hybrid last winter. At first, I thought it was just the sensor acting up, but my local workshop found that although the reservoir wasn't completely empty, the fluid level was below what the system considers safe to operate. They did a thorough check of the pump and lines but found nothing wrong with them. Simply topped up the washer fluid and recalibrated the sensor, cost me about 25 Euro for the service. Been working perfectly since then. What's the mileage on your 5 Series? Also, have you noticed any unusual sounds when trying to use the washers, or is it just completely silent? This info would help determine if you're dealing with the same simple fix or possibly something else.
