BMW 5 Hybrid Transmission Warnings Signal Urgent Repairs

Help needed: Multiple transmission warnings and errors in my 2021 BMW 5 Hybrid Having serious concerns with my transmission. Getting multiple warning lights, rough gear shifts, and grinding sounds. Transmission seems to be in limp mode. Suspect it might be related to radiator oil pressure issues. Previous mechanic experience wasn't great, so I'm hesitant to go back. Has anyone experienced similar symptoms? Looking for recommendations on reliable mechanics who know these hybrid systems well. Car details: 2021 BMW 5 Hybrid, 126,320 km, Automatic transmission Thanks in advance for any advice or shared experiences.

Had a similar issue with my 2018 BMW 3 Series Hybrid last spring. The symptoms were identical, transmission warnings, rough shifts, and that awful grinding. Turned out the cable connector to the transmission control module was loose and corroded, causing faulty signals. My trusted mechanic did a full diagnostic scan first. The main problem was the wiring harness connection to the transmission, not the transmission itself, thankfully. They had to clean the terminals, replace the connector, and reseal it properly. The mechanic also updated the transmission control module software. It wasn't a major repair in terms of components, but it required someone who really knows hybrid systems. The grinding sound completely disappeared after the fix, and the transmission has been shifting smoothly since then. Just make sure whoever works on it is certified for BMW hybrids. Those transmission warnings are serious and shouldn't be ignored, but they don't always mean a complete transmission failure.

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! That's super helpful since it sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with. I'm relieved to hear it wasn't the entire transmission that needed replacing. Do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the repair? Also, has everything been running smoothly since then, or have you noticed any other issues pop up? Just want to know what I might be in for.

Hey there! Happy to give you an update. After my last post, I actually took my BMW 3 Series Hybrid to a mechanic and it turned out to be exactly what I suspected. They found the Radiator oil pressure component was defective, same issue I mentioned before. The best news? It was a pretty simple fix. They sorted out the faulty cable and plug connection, and the whole thing only set me back 95 €. That's way better than what I was initially worried about paying! And to answer your question, yep, everything's been running like a dream since then. No more grinding noises, transmission warnings have completely disappeared, and the gear shifts are buttery smooth again. Haven't had a single problem since the repair, which was about 8 months ago now. Trust me, when I first got those warnings, I was thinking the worst, but sometimes it's just these smaller connection issues that cause all the drama. Sounds like you might be dealing with the same thing. Hope this helps put your mind at ease a bit!

Just wanted to update everyone, I finally got my car fixed! After reading about your experience, I decided to try a different mechanic who specializes in hybrid systems. Turned out to be the best decision. The issue was indeed similar, they found a corroded connection in the transmission wiring harness. The mechanic cleaned everything up, replaced the connector, and did a software update. Total bill came to around 120 €, which was such a relief compared to what I was expecting. Best part? My car's running perfectly now. No more warning lights, the grinding noise is gone, and the transmission shifts like new again. Really glad I didn't rush into any major repairs at my old mechanic. Thanks again for sharing your experience, it really helped me make the right decision. Just shows how sometimes the scariest car problems can have relatively simple solutions!
