BMW 5 Hybrid Overheating Plus No Heat, Common Fix Inside

Overheating

Fault stored

Hi all! Got some issues with my 2020 BMW 5 Hybrid (165k km) and need your input. The engine's running hot, cabin heat isn't working, and there's an error code stored. I suspect it might be the bypass valve, but after a previous disappointing experience with a mechanic, I'd like to hear from others who've dealt with similar symptoms. Has anyone encountered this combination of problems? How was your experience getting it fixed, and what was the actual cause? Thanks in advance for any insights!

Thanks for sharing your experience with the bypass valve and pump issues. That's really helpful info, and it sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with right now. Quick question, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the whole repair? Also, has everything been running smoothly since the fix, or have you noticed any other problems pop up?

Update on my BMW situation, I finally got it checked out at the shop today! After reading about your experience, I decided not to wait any longer. Turns out you were spot on, it was definitely the bypass valve. The mechanic found some metal bits in the system too, just like in your case. The repair bill came to quite a bit, but thankfully they found a service bulletin about this issue. Got most of it covered under an extended warranty I didn't even know I had! They replaced both the valve and pump, plus did a thorough flush of the cooling system. Just drove it home, and what a difference! The engine temp is perfect, and I've got toasty cabin heat again. Really glad I didn't put this off any longer. Thanks again for pushing me to get it looked at, you probably saved me from some serious engine damage!

Let our mechanics help you!
