BMW 4 Tire Pressure Sensor Issues & Speedo Errors

Tire pressure to low

Error message in the speedometer

Fault stored

Hey everyone! My 2021 BMW 4 with gas engine shows low tire pressure warnings and speedometer errors. The error memory shows issues as well. I suspect faulty tire pressure sensors. Has anyone dealt with similar problems? What did your workshop diagnose and how was it fixed? Looking for real experiences before taking it to the mechanic. Thanks in advance!

Hi there! I have some experience working on cars and faced a similar issue with my 2019 BMW 2 Series last year. The symptoms were exactly the same, unusual tire pressure warnings and wonky speedometer readings. Took it to my regular workshop and turns out the TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) sensor batteries were dead. They replaced the sensors, reprogrammed the system, and everything's been working perfectly since then. The whole thing cost me around 280 Euro. Before suggesting anything specific for your case, could you tell me if you've noticed any pattern when these warnings appear? Like after driving for a while or during certain weather conditions? Also, does your car show any specific error codes? I know both 2 and 4 Series share similar systems, but knowing these details would help narrow down if we're dealing with the same issue.

Thanks for sharing your experience! My car's at 129320 KM and had its last service just a month ago. The warnings seem completely unusual, they pop up regardless of weather or driving time. The weirdest part is that even after checking and adjusting tire pressures manually, the system keeps acting up. The error codes mainly point to the TPMS system, but there's also something about signal interference. My mechanic never mentioned anything about sensor batteries during the last service, so you might be onto something there. Did your mechanic mention how long these sensors typically last? Just trying to figure out if I should expect this kind of issue at this mileage.

Hey again! Thanks for the follow-up details. Yeah, I totally get your frustration with those unusual warnings, it's super annoying! Actually, when I had my sensor issues, my car had around 115000 KM, so pretty close to your mileage. My mechanic told me TPMS sensor batteries typically last 5-7 years or around 100000-130000 KM, depending on usage. So timing-wise, you're right in that replacement window. The signal interference you mentioned rings a bell, had that exact same error code before the sensors gave up completely. Makes sense your last service didn't catch it because these sensors usually work fine until they just... don't. It's like they go from perfectly functional to completely dead pretty quickly. Since you're getting similar symptoms to what I experienced (unusual warnings despite correct tire pressure), I'd bet money you're dealing with dying sensor batteries too. The speedometer acting up is also a classic sign, it's all connected to the same system in these BMWs. Quick tip from my experience, when you get them replaced, make sure they reprogram everything properly. Mine needed a second visit because one sensor wasn't syncing correctly at first. Kind of a pain, but worth doing right to avoid more headaches later.

Thanks so much for the detailed explanation! This really helps me understand what I'm dealing with. It's actually a relief to hear that it's likely just the sensor batteries reaching their end of life, I was worried it might be something more serious with the car's electronics. The mileage comparison really puts things in perspective, and now the unusual warnings make much more sense. I'll definitely get the sensors checked out and replaced if needed. Thanks for the heads-up about making sure they reprogram everything correctly too, I'll be sure to mention that when I take it in. I think I'll schedule an appointment with my mechanic this week. At least now I can go in knowing what to expect and won't feel completely in the dark about the issue. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience, it's been super helpful!
