BMW 4 Series Window Regulator Failure Fix Needed

Power windows malfunction

|

Fault stored

Hey all! My 2015 BMW 4 Series (191k km) is giving me trouble with the power windows. None of them are working anymore, and the diagnostic shows a window regulator initialization error. Had a not-so-great experience with my previous mechanic, so I'm hesitant to go back. Has anyone dealt with similar window issues? Would love to hear about your repair experiences and recommendations for fixing this problem. Thanks in advance!

I faced a similar issue with my 2018 BMW 3 Series last winter. The power windows completely stopped working, showing the same initialization error. What looked like a window regulator problem turned out to be a weak battery causing electrical system issues. When I took it to the garage, the diagnostic test revealed the battery was operating at less than 40% capacity. Had it replaced and all the electrical systems, including the windows, started working perfectly again. The whole repair took about an hour. From my experience, it's better to start with the simpler potential causes. The battery issue wasn't as serious as I initially feared, but it definitely needed immediate attention to prevent further electrical problems. If you're looking for a new mechanic, make sure they specialize in European cars and can properly diagnose electrical systems.

Thanks so much for sharing that, really helpful to know it might just be battery-related! Definitely gives me some hope that it could be a simpler fix than I feared. By the way, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the whole thing? And has everything been running smoothly since, or have you noticed any other electrical quirks popping up?

Hey there! Happy to follow up about my BMW battery situation. Yeah, the whole thing set me back about 290€, which included the new battery and labor. But honestly, it was worth every penny because it sorted out all those annoying electrical gremlins, including that pesky window regulator initialization error. Since getting it fixed, my car's been running like a dream, no more window issues or any other electrical quirks. It's amazing how something as simple as a weak battery can cause such weird problems! Really glad I could help point you in the right direction. Once they swapped out the old battery, they just had to reinitialize the windows, and everything's been working perfectly since then. Just a heads up, from what I learned, these BMW electrical systems can get pretty moody when the battery starts getting weak. Getting it sorted sooner rather than later is definitely the way to go.

Just wanted to update you all on my BMW situation! Finally got the courage to try a new mechanic, and wow, you were spot on about the battery! Turns out mine was also running pretty low, causing all those window problems. The mechanic charged me around 300 bucks for a new battery and labor, which wasn't too bad considering I was worried it might be something way more expensive. Got it fixed yesterday, and after they reset the window system, everything's working perfectly now. Such a relief! The windows are moving smoothly again, and I haven't noticed any other electrical issues. Can't believe I was stressing so much about what turned out to be just a battery problem. Thanks again for sharing your experience, it really helped me make the decision to get it checked out. Definitely learned my lesson about not waiting too long when these electrical issues pop up in BMWs!

Let our mechanics help you!
